We all know sky didn't invent football, but the show that was on just now on Sky Sports 1 is superb. Time of our lives - Holy trinity. A programme change in honour of HK. Super stuff.
I'm sure I've seen that before, must be a repeat but it's superb.

It's been brilliant reading some of these tales of his off the field stuff these last couple of days, also listening to and seeing them described on the radio and TV. Reidy was enthusing about how when Howie was manager they used to "go out for a chinese" (i.e. go on the lash) quite often even after a defeat to build and consolidate team spirit. Didn't do them any harm it would seem as this team spirit that he built was the one thing above all else that would ensure that they triumphed in the face of adversity. It never used to bother me when that side went 1-0 behind in a game because they nearly always came back not only to equalise, but to go on and win. It's a real shame you don't see similar bonding anymore but that's the modern game I suppose, where maximum athleticism is king.

The only other thing I'd like to say about Howard is that it's also a real shame that his 3rd spell as manager was effectively a stop gap until Johnson got someone else in. It was a disgrace that he was give absolutely no money that season which nearly got us relegated, and then money was given to Smith the following season. He was treated abysmally by Johnson. Although he knew that there would be no money given to him that season, he couldn't resist the temptation to manage Everton for a 3rd time because of his love for the club, even though this 3rd term was certain to detract from his overall record as manager.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Beautiful words mate, we spoke on the phone a few weeks ago if you remember and you were telling me what a wonderful person Howard was (obviously not knowing the terrible events which were about to occur). It was clear from our conversation that you held the man in the highest regard as a person and close friend, let alone him being your footballing hero.

He enriched all of our lives as Evertonians, Howard is no longer with us but we should all continue to march in his army.

Thanks mate. And thanks for your personal support too. I'm just one of many many ordinary people whose life Howard enriched. That's his legacy. We'll all give him a great send off I'm sure.

I've noticed some have mentioned a tribute on sky sports/bbc to him. Would someone happen to have a copy?

Being a little too young to remember the success of the 80's this sad news has had me discovering more of it via various videos and articles on the internet. I found this interesting article.

Kendall appears to be complimentary of Moyes and the 2009 team but the quote at the end from Brian Clough during the cup winners cup game is the best.

''goodness, how long is this team going to stay together and dominate Europe"

I lifted this comment from the interview posted earlier in the thread. This says it all for me and any others I would think.

What I would say is that Cloughie [Brian Clough] said on television during the [1985] European Cup-Winners Cup final, 'goodness, how long this team is going to stay together and dominate Europe?' so it was desperately disappointing not to get the chance.
