The last ten or so years we have lost too many of our legends/iconic figures from our wonderful football club, labby, bally, westy, sandy,Dave Hickson, kingy, sir Philip carter and now Howard,I know these men in their heart of hearts would want us as a club to find some comparable figures in these modern times,if we could we could still reclaim a place at footballs top table.

Wow thanks for the response that is amazing. My ma set it up with the owner of the red cow when we went on a trip with the Irish Toffees. I remember telling me mates Everton were up there cause me ma and no one believed me.
I was 14, I only seen us lift the FA Cup but looking back the elder Evertonians chanting Moyes songs around such an Everton legend, the word legend doesn't even cut it with Kendall. Kinda embarrassing looking back. But great night, especially for you.

I hadn't been living over here that long, and joined the Irish Toffees not long after that night, met some people that night who are still good friends to this day.

I've been to loads of ex player functions over here since, but none were a patch on that night. Nothing has matched the numbers they drew in since, they had some line up though, even accounting for a couple of absentees,I was gutted at the time Alex Young never made it over for personal reasons, and was pissing myself laughing when John Bailey had to go to bed just after half seven because he was too pissed to speak.

Kendall stole the show that night though, and rightly so. The man was a hero as a player and manager, absolute gent too.

I'm still going on trips with The Irish Toffees now, the boat trips are the stuff of legend, but that's a story for another day.

macca mate you correctly cited 1997/98 as a manager but let me tell you in 1972/73 as a seven year old I started going regular, and Howard as a player kept us in the division on his own that season.

I've read stories about that Dario. I can't think of a person who fits the title of an 'Everton legend' more than Howard Kendall mate.

To do it as a player is something, to do it as a manager is an unbelievable achievement - to do it as a player and then a manager, well he's in company of a very small few who have done it and been successful as both with the same club.

Renaming the Park End would be a fitting tribute to our greatest manager.

For me mate, personally naming a stand isn't enough. That stand isn't fitting enough to be named after Kendall.

I like the idea of the Holy Trinity so I can understand why that's popular. But for me, I want a stand alone figure of him, carved with that beaming smile of his you see on the title winning photos and cup success. I think he deserves a statue that generations can go and see for many years to come.

That's what I would like to see personally mate.

Well said that man, well said.
Trouble is, we'll need a major-league sugar daddy to do afford what they achieved. We might have been nicknamed the Mersey Millionaires back in the John Moores era, but compared to the riches in the game these days, we were just relatively well-heeled by comparison.

That's great stuff. I was over with them for a leeds game. I go independently now I should look into joining up. I wish I was of age to have a prober drink that night. But that moment was enough of a memory to have. My memories of Kendall are of his 3rd spell. But as ye get older it feels like I was there in the 70s and 80s at this stage.

A Holy Trinity statue is a must !!
A statue of Howard as manager as well would be equally acceptable.

Cant disagree with that. If they name the stand after him (agree its not the best stand) they should incorporate a statue of him behind it.

easily the most emotional thing to hit me as a everton fan

the tributes from other clubs just sums up the class of the man

Suitable tribute from Atheletic Bilbao planned at their next match.
