Howard Kendall RIP

it was a privilege to be around to see this club's greatest servant. We will not see anybody with his qualities and loyalties to this club again.
To succeed as he did, to restore Everton to the pinnacle of the game building that wonderful team, was an achievement I've not seen surpassed. All the praise heaped on Dalglish, Ferguson, Mourinho, who all had unlimited budgets to spend their way to success. Howard built his team in the bargain basement, and unlike the three above, was never less than a gentleman and credit to his club.
It's always riled me the way his second and third spells are described as alcohol binges (thank you Stuart McCall). He was building a cracking side with City when he chucked it all in for us, and go and ask Sheffield United if they were pleased to see him go, when we had that idiot Johnson at the helm. I remember going on Radio Merseyside on a phone in, after Johnson sacked him to bring in Walt, I was so angry.
and I never even saw him play.
For us to lose him at 69 is heartbreaking.

I know we didn't have much time as a club to prepare but felt pretty underwhelmed at a minutes applause, I think a silence would have befitted him on such a sad day. I don't know after the brilliant tribute to Alan Ball a few years back on match day.

How he kept us up in 1997 is beggars belief, he was hung out to dry by Johnston that season especially with the transfers

More than an Everton legend he maybe THE greatest Evertonian

Colins Harvey's tears during the minutes applause had me in tears.

Too emotional to post earlier, still am to be honest. Today's match, disappointing as it was, is to me irrelevant . At least when I'm in my dotage, when people come up to me and say,
did you see the match today, two fantastic teams, I can say, maybe, but I saw Everton under Howard Kendall. I think I'll get drunk tonight.

...my son (who didn't see him play) asked him "which modern day player would you most compare yourself to". Howard thought for a mere second and came back with "Christiano Ronaldo". True story, he was certainly priceless to us.

...cheers.

Reckon the players were the same tbh, it's not Dixie Dean, it's someone they saw most days.

Good to see Rooney not celebrating after he scored. Surely he realised the emotions that were going through Goodison Park. At least that were my thoughts after his goal.

He spoke well after the match as well. Said he had spoken to Dunc this morning, and sent his condolences to the family.
