Just got home from the match and for me, and I suspect many others, the sad passing of Howard Kendall totally overshadowed the game. I just could not get either excited or depressed by what I saw on the pitch, it was largely an irrelevance.

We all obviously remember those teams; older ones than me remember the player, but tons of stuff has been said about him. West Ham fan on 5 Live just now recalling him at 17 playing for Preston, being just one example.
But perhaps we, as Evertonians, dont really appreciate how admired his 80's teams were, miles away from L4.
