Absolute gentleman, myself and my 2 sons were chatting to him before the city match. He will always be a hero of mine and with myself being 51 I was lucky to see the great times with Howard at the helm . Rip Howard x

Appropriate it is United today -the way Howard took them and Liverpool on in the 80's and came out on top. 84-85 5-0 then next game beating them at Old Trafford in the Milk cup was unbelievable, he gave us such belief, confidence and great times as fans. Ironic meeting up later with a proper Salford lad United fan from those days who has often told me that was the greatest away support he has ever witnessed at OT. Thank you again Howard, memories keep coming back- could post on here all day!

"He used to play for Preston too, and he was my idol growing up, but that Everton team of the mid 1980s - his team - were outstanding. If English clubs hadn't been banned from playing in Europe because of the Heysel disaster, they could have won the European Cup.

"He was a good man, a social man, a real football man. And he will be very sorely missed. It's come as a real shock."

Wolves fan here. I remember watching Howard Kendall playing at Molineux in the 1960's. He was a superb player, and even though I was cheering on the Wolves, I could not help but admire Kendall. A great player and a great manager.
Sincere condolences to Howard's family and everyone at Goodison Park.

The word legend is bandied about far too easily nowadays, but today the football world has lost a true legend.
