Howard gets a call from Obama

They got to last 16 FFS its not like they achieved anything.

Exactly

25 million Americans watched their last two games and 20 million in the other games this tournament. That's 8 times the population of Uruguay who have an interest in the game. Even if it's their 4th sport its nothing to shout home about, the nation has a huge population and should easily be front runners in most team sports. Look at Australia for example, Rugby league, union, cricket, aussie rules and even their footy team had a decent showing and that's with a population a fraction of the US. Always thought Americans had no time for losers, looks like they're going soft.

Mate...I'm not blaming anybody. Was only saying if there were someone to blame I'd put it on Klinnsman's selection...but that is only because of hindsight, which really isn't fair.

The bottom line...Dempsey is not to blame for the loss. If you feel the need to 'pin it' on him, so be it. His miss will not be remembered...the brilliant set piece will...his goal in the first minute against Ghana will...scoring with his bollocks against Portugal will.

My one image from the game, aside from Howard's brilliance, was that miss at the end of the free kick routine by Dempsey.

I'd already forgotten about his two goals in the group stages so I guess that highlights that argument. You can score with you bollocks all day long in the group stages, it's what you do in the knockout stage for what you are remembered for.

It's clearly a cultural thing...

Maybe if we'd invented the sport we would have advanced?

Its only 3 games in the group stages and they came out of it with a 33% win record. You get the likes of Oldham taking Liverpool to a cup replay and beating them, more or less on par with that.
