How would the UK react to the second coming of Jesus?

Why shouldn't the scriptures be taken literally, given they were our primary source of morality code for centuries?

So you're saying that people should believe that a man could literally turn water into wine, feed 5000 people with 5 loaves and 2 fish, heal leprosy with a single touch, raise people amd himself from the dead - or the one who married the 6 year old (I'm not going to at the obvious name to call him, Muslims don't tend to have a sense of humour) healing the blind, splitting the moon in half (seriously?) Or speaking to the dead...

If you believe they should be taken literally, or you think they are real - you're an idiot. Anyone who thinks any of these actually happened is an idiot.

I would say that there are some good parables in there that promote goodwill, etc. but to say they actually happened is a bit far fetched.

I would also say that there is some messed up crap in there that should never, ever be taken as literal and definitely not as a good moral code to stand by.

As a society, our morality came from religion. You know things like adultery, murder, rape, theft, prostitution, abortion, etc. We adopted these ideals into our culture but simultaneously, started to drift away from religion as these ideals became mutually exclusive with following a religion.
