How would the UK react to the second coming of Jesus?

I'd say most countries support the "an eye for an eye" because of how prevalent the death penalty is, including the United States.
And they tend to want to employ the 'eye for an eye' rule with people who break the 'Thou shalt not kill' rule. As they seem to think the original tablet said 'Thou shalt not kill, unless.....'

We didn't get our moral code from religion. people simply started to apply the bits from the religious books which were convenient to their way of thinking. Then over time the general population were indoctrinated with the bits which were/are convenient to the people in power.

I think you're getting the wrong end of the stick here buddy. The verse you quoted is actually meant to protect the victim. Back in those days, no men was willing to marry non-virgin females and they were seen as burden. If a female lost her virginity through rape, she would be rendered "useless" so the rapist marrying her, would give her the chance of having a husband, financial support and respect. Obviously in 2021, our society was evolved so much to the point where these scriptures look bad or evil, even though they were all made in good will.

OK, let us imagine that religion never existed. Let us just look at this as a fact and as if it just came out of a political manifesto.

Is it still justifiable and defendable if it came out of a lawyers/politicians mouth and was made the law, in any period of history?

I could not care less what period these things were done, it is a disgusting comment and there is no well 'It is OK, people were just different back then'

Back to Jesus's return, if he came back and we showed him that passage of a book that was written largely in his name, do you think he would be happy?

He’d at least want some of the cash the book had made over the years…

Wonder what he'd think of the gold laden vatican and the amount of peadophiles in the catholic church

I keep wondering why he hasn't smashed them all, personally. Same reason he let the moneychangers in the temple get away with that one for a good long while, I suppose.
