How significant is finishing above the red side two seasons in a row?

Don't really care where we finish now as long as be take all the points at Analfield -that would be as good as trophy considering or resources.

not significant in anyway but not sure how people can think its not really enjoyable. had so many smug, sneering texts when they thought they destined to finish above us before the City game. am already enjoying the silence since

It gives me bragging rights in my household so that means it is important to me.

They'd need a lot more than £50m to 'blow us away'. Too many crap players on big money. Unless they get sheikh money, they're forever doomed to be around us. They might finish above us occasionally, but they ain't blowing anyone away, because Utd, City and Chelsea will always be richer, Arsenal for all their whinging are a well-run club, and Spurs spend a fortune.

That's just it - they're basically getting that; but wasting it massively. They've spent over £85m net in the last two seasons alone.

Hence why I said "with a competent manager". They'll always have money and massive sponsorship deals. Literally the only thing stopping them comfortably finishing above us is the legacy of pure garbage from Dalglish and the youth team management skills of Rodgers.

We're deluding ourselves if we think anything other than this. You say Spurs spend a fortune; they've actually made a net profit in the last three seasons in the transfer market, but if they slipped substantially as Liverpool have, they'd simply smash £50-60m into players and regain their position.

Not sure if I'm making my point properly, but basically what I'm saying is the obvious - there's no way we can expect to finish above Liverpool and it wouldn't matter how many times we actually did finish above them because it wouldn't make it any more or less likely the next season.

Significant? Sort of, in a small way. It has some significance (meaning) to finish above your local rivals, and a little more to do it twice in a row after only managing it once in the previous 16 years.

What really makes it much more significant is if every Evertonian responds to it not by inanely bragging and attempting to make it anything more than it is, but with the gentle and gracious smile of someone who just knows they're better. Then those dirty f****** ****s will show their own classless bitter side while we're nonchalantly masturbating to youtube clips of Mirallas step-overs.

They're in love with Rodgers though. There's no danger at all of the owners getting rid of him.

Would, say, Benitez do any better? I don't think what Liverpool spend is 'sheikh' money'. It's a lot, don't get me wrong, but they're not as big as Utd, and they don't give people £200k+ a week willy-nilly like City and Chelsea do, that's my point.

The signing of Daniel Sturridge summed them up - decent player but considered not good enough for Chelsea or City. Lets not forget they only have Suarez because they sold Torres. The Torres money was all spent on Carroll & Suarez.

If it happens, and it's still a big 'if' unfortunately, it will have some sigificance because it will further show just how they have fallen and how far away they are from getting where they want to be despite spending loads of cash.

Arsed ? You bet.

It's THEM who's only target this season is to finish above US. I'd love it, love it, if we beat them.

agree mate as big as they are sponsership rise they havent got Citeh style money, hopefully they piss the suarez money up the wall as they wont have the cash needed to get top 4 regulary, they have debts of around £80 mil I think which has come out of nowhere considering Henry cleared their debt when buying them.

not arsed one bit. If we were both going for the title and we beat them to it then yes; I think I would probably die happy, or if we beat them to a champions league place then it would be amazing. But if it's to decide the 6th and 7th place trophies then for me I really could care less

Ill be honest, I love it and hell yeah it's significant to me.

There only 4 points better of then they were last season at the same stage, while Dalglish had won the calcium cup and was in the cup final, despite the Rodgers media live in.

You should probably reverse that question and ask them...unless I'm reading the league table wrong.

They've won stuff during our Moyes-era, and had many European adventures. We want some of that, and my theory as to why we haven't had that is less to do with money and more to do with an inherent lack of killer instinct, or superiority complex, of the players and coaching team.

I agree with the comments in this thread, we shouldn't brag and we shouldn't obsess over them. But a quiet confidence manifesting itself in that elusive superiority complex might come over our players if they realise they are the top dogs of Merseyside now. And as every football fan knows, every season requires a title challenge from at least one Merseyside club. It's that sense of entitlement we need. And beating them to confirm our higher placing might just help us attain that.

end of the day until we get shiekh or oligarch money Im made up to finish above them, before citeh got their cash they would of been made up to be challenging for Europe finishing above Utd 2 years in a row

throught the 90's i always wondered what it would be like, now it's here i'm not really too arsed. I just find it funny above all if i'm honest, how we're absolutely skint and yet they've spunked hundreds of millions and have still managed to build a squad worse than ours - doesn't make sense. would rather we start beating and then annihaltaing them though, just to make everyone take note that we're the no.1 team on merseyside now
