'How Pierluigi Collina blew it for David Moyes and Everton in 2005'

Villarreal were much the better side, like. We were unlucky to be drawn against one of the best sides in europe.

But it still hurt to be robbed of a goal, even if we'd still have lost.

Agree with all of this. BUT!!! was we unlucky with the draw or was we the scapegoat???.

The seeds in that CL draw in 2005-2006 were...

Liverpool
Manchester United
Internazionale
Panathinaikos
FC Petrzalka
Villarreal
Sporting CP Lisbon
AS Monaco
Ajax
Anderlecht
Glasgow Rangers
FC Thun
Werder Bremen
Lokomotiv Moscow
Rosenborg BK

I am sorry to admit this, and my son is currently not talking to me.....I am going t the United game tonight!!!!

Im sorry !

Is right Pabbers son! At least one of you's a proper blue.

Only messing Pabbs. I'd go just to watch if it was free.

How on earth would that have anyone 'conflicted'? It was only England FFS!

This.

In what way could any Evertonian possibly be "conflicted" over Collina?

He screwed EFC over royally and who know how the next few years had panned out haqppen we had made the big money stages of the CL?

I thought Evertonians were just whining when they mentioned this? Now all the plastics have something to hold onto when they get done over in the Champions League this year. Again.

I'll be eternally conflicted in regards to Collina

Yeah, he really did us over in that game

But, he also reffed England Vs Argentina in 2002 and did a great job keeping the Argies in check

I think it's just unlucky for us that he had a rare poor game while reffing one of our matches

does any everton fan really give 2 f*cks about england though? esp in 2002 when we never a player anywhere near the england team

My memory of the second leg is that we were actually making an excellent fist of regaining ground in a tie we had basically lost at home by virtue of Villarreal being an excellent side and very sharp up front. By getting to 1-1 and having a good 20 mins to really go for it we turned the momentum of the tie our way and they were really nervous as we took control and started to play really well. 2-1 to us at the death meant extra time with advantage us if we got an away goal. Obviously we were still vulnerable to them scoring at any point because they were sharp up front but it was all going perfectly from a very unpromising start. They were a really good side but we were cheated plain and simple by that decision. Fully deserved extra time.

Just to let you know, I gave a couple of boooo's for Rooney & Fellaini, and shouted offside for every United goal.

True blue me.
Have you noticed UNTS last 2 home games the first goal they have scored twice were dubious decisions by the Ref and his assistants - nothing against DM this time but he never in a million years got gifts of opening goals like that at Goodison seems to me all the top 4 teams seem to get there share of luck - luck at Sunderland on sat v arsenal the good equalise unescerry ruled out - then that retired Ref Halsey states in a book he was on the telephone to top Managers SAF in particular most times while refereeing - out of order to say the least! I suspect things are not correct in that RESPECT!
