One of my earliest memories is my nan telling me (in a flood of tears) about the food-shortages during the Miners strikes.

£100bn of North Sea Oil wasted on Yuppies, whilst good, honest, working people starved.

Toryism.
Funny. My nan said everything was better before "those people" starting turning up.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

See Hammond Conservative Government Chancellor got the pointy finger sneer out for those of us who are classed as disabled and gainfully employed by putting the blame of low productivity at door of disabilities. It is the Tory way, blame everyone else.. Be interesting to see figures of classified disabled people increasing in the work force and productivity falling, bet they don't match and not even close.

As soon as I had enough money and assets. I couldn't wait to leave behind the scrounging pleb's who always make poor decisions because they were too busy at school being disruptive or getting preggars every weekend on drugs. I will not let them hold back the progress of humanity with their fabricated tales of woe, and prevent the evolution of the Übermensch behind the walls of our luxury gated community.

Stereotypes for the win isn't it? If you're of a leftish persuasion it's that anyone that's well off has inherited or conned their way into wealth and only wants to poop on the poor, whilst the poor are plucky underdogs who would be great if only they had the chance. If you're of a rightish persuasion, the rich are hard working go-getters who have achieved success through their own endeavours, whilst the poor have plenty of opportunities but are too feckless to capitalise on them.

I'm not sure either set of caricatures is particularly useful.

Silliest quote of the year award....... Tories, who happen to be the biggest supported political party in the U.K., are for the most part, just ordinary decent people. Your sort of comments, which attempts to place half the population as being little better than vermin, just emphasises why they will never vote Labour. Have you ever wondered why the language you use is only ever used by Labour supporters and never by the decent folk who vote Tory. One day you will grow up and understand....but not yet.........

Erm...on which planet? Because on this one the most hateful speech comes from the right. Not even close.

Not so. Tory supporters tend not to use that sort of language.......

You've riled yourself many times Pete at attempts to characterise leave voters, and it's the same with Tory or Labour supporters isn't it? I mean it's quite evident in both parties that there are centrist mps and those adopting more extreme positions. At the moment (sadly imo), it's the extremes of both parties that are in the driving seat, so we have an aching chasm in the centre ground that sees probably the majority of the British public being un-served by their politicians.

I've never voted for Labour in my life, but to be honest with you, had they put up a Blairist candidate (Stella Creasey for instance), then I'd have voted for them at the last election like a shot.

Why? Because what I earn, what my family is exactly that. It’s not a charity pot for others. Tax is fair enough but I’m not working half a week to support others. It’s been drilled in my head since being a youth that if you want something you go and get it. Whether it means working 60, 70 hours a week or whatever else. Yes there are people less fortunate than me, but they have the same ability to go out and put hard work in.

Not as simple as that though, is it? For many, it isn't just a case of wanting something and getting it through hard work. That's a myth which is pedalled as a tool to blame the individuals for not succeeding instead of the system which benefits themselves.

Everybody is a product of their upbringings, their past experiences and the situation they find themselves in quite often due to no fault of their own. Now of course, there will be times when, like your parents, people who have very little achieve material success through their hard work and application. There had to be some glimmer of an opportunity there in the first place, though. This isn't the norm.

Those born into poverty have very little chance of ever escaping poverty. It is far too easy to say that if people in poverty applied themselves a bit more and worked harder then they would do well. Life doesn't work that way.
