Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

Pretty much there is one person who is saying that in a case like this both players involved should sit out games because they think it would make the FA act faster.

And pretty much everyone else disagrees.

I'm pretty sure if i tell you that he who shouts loudest and for longest gets noticed most you'll be able to guess who that 1 person is.

I think what @davek was I'm assuming that's who you were talking about ) saying in a roundabout way is that if he was banned we can sure as hell guarantee that a decision would have been made in about 48 hours as the FA would have been put under immense pressure from all parties.

As things stand, we seem no nearer to hearing a decision because the communication has been nothing short of diabolical from all involved. If Everton aren' allowed to say anything well let us know it' becsuse an investigation is ongoing. If the FA can't say anything due to the same reason then let us know.

just playing Devil's advocate here (and it really makes me baulk saying it) but for you lads saying Firmino should have been banned while the case was on going, shouldn't it be a case of 'innocent till proven guilty?' Also, It's a case of catch 22, if he gets found guilty, then in hindsight he should have been banned whilst the FA were looking into it, but if he had been banned from the start, and missed a fair few games for the RS, then the verdict was not guilty, then wouldn't the RS have every right to feel aggrieved because he was banned? As I say, just playing Devil's advocate.
We should accuse Mane, Firmino and Salah of racism before every derby.

That way we may actually win one.

5pm. And the working day is done. Another day added to the mists of time that will obscure this all. At least we can all look forward to Holgate being keelhauled for tweets he made as a kid.

Yes, thats what dave was suggesting would happen. It's a nice idea in theory but in practice just wouldn't work. You might get a decision within 48 hours but there's a pretty good chance it wouldn't be the right one.

Like it or not a serious accusation like this needs to be done correctly, and that takes time. I'd have thought logically the biggest issue regarding the delay is legalities and making sure any decision is watertight.

I'm pretty sure you, dave and everyone else moaning about how longs this is taking would moan even more if they made a rush decision, said there was no evidence to charge Firmino then it transpires there was but they missed it. I'd rather they took theiur time and made thr right decision.

Any update would just be "we are continuing to investigate" which is obvious anyway, unless you believe they are ignoring it and hoping it goes away.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying people should be banned without a hearing.
However professional sports people should be held to a higher standard as their in the public eye and people follow their example
See the ecb with stokes
Short term stopping them from playing until a decision has been made would hopefully ensure that clubs cooperate, procedures are followed smoothly and transparently, and most importantly these incidents cease to occur

Stokes is a terrible example the ECB have made a complete hash of it . Stokes was arrested and not charged but banned from playing for England so missed the ashes and now having been charged with affray he’s travelling to New Zealand to represent his country . I don’t think they’ve a clue what they’re doing , it looks like they’re making it up as they go along .

The FA charge Rodrques on the word of the player who said he was racially abused. But won't charge Firminho on the word of Holgate who said he was racially abused. So the word of one player is worth more than the word of another player. Or has it something to do with one player accuses a West Brom player and one player accuses an lfc player. Who as a club were still complaining that Suarez was found guilty on the word of one player, even when he admitted using the racial words Evra said he did.
Sounds like the FA are running scared about charging yet another lfc player for racial abuse. This is not incompetence but deliberate bias in favour of lfc because it wouldn't look good for the marketing of the premier league.
If Brewster has been allowed to talk about the racial abuse he is suffered in Russia while the UEFA Investigation is going on, why can't we as a club arrange for Holgate to be interviewed by Everton tv and talk about his experience of racism in football.

Short term stopping them from playing until a decision has been made is banning people without a hearing though. Even Rodriguez who has been charged is still quite rightly free to play until he has actually been found guilty of something.

The only way something should be done is if a player or a club is deliberately obstructing the investigation and there is no evidence that is happening. To be honest these things can drag on because the life of a footballer isn't exactly 9-5. For instance this week both clubs are abroad at training camps.
