Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

I’m genuinely a fairly angry person but I’ve rarely been this angry over something , the whole situation is ridiculous.

The media & RS praise Brewster for his bravery standing up to racism , they even have a special segment on the Sunday supplement, The same people then pillory holgate for exactly the same thing . Pathetic miss Marple RS forensically go through his twitter and find offensive language when he was a child and he now faces charges . White middle class journalists compare this ‘viscous assault’ and racist language . The narrative is constantly about the push , when that’s absolutely irrelevant to the allegation. Local media effectively ignoring the story . Story after story undermines holgates position in a classic trump fake news style so everyone thinks they know he’s lying before the fa have even really started .

The whole thing is an absolute disgrace .

Why is nooone pointing out in the media how it's always after a player has done something to the rs that these things come out?
Surely if people where genuinely worried about his comments they'd have been reported at the time?
It's blatant mud slinging by the kopites I'm an attempt to get colgate off the hook, 'he might of been racist but the victims a homophobe so it's ok'
I'll be the first to admit that I was homophobic at times when I was younger (unfortunately pretty much every lad will have at some point) I grew up, matured and became understanding and accepting of peoples choices to be different , pretty sure Mason has too.

They were from before he was a professional footballer. How on earth can the FA even justify looking at it.

Im fairly sure nothing will come of it, perhaps the FA are under the impression they were recent.

No way he'll get done for them imo, just media shitstiring

It's ridiculous.

Don't get me started on that H and M thing.

Evidently, they can't ban Holgate for violent conduct, if the ref has said that he saw it and decided not to take action. So, they're going to find a way.

I'm a year older than Holgate, give or take.

A few of my mates know him. We're from the same area.

While immature and reckless, he was 14/15 at the time of those tweets. They are tweets to friends, in the context that they were evidently not meant to be taken seriously. Ludicrous.
Yep.

Like you said, they'll find a way to get him.

That said, if there is a camera angle that shows Firminho say the N word to him, it's going to be tricky for the FA. If it can be proven that Firmino has to be banned, and banning Holgate for three games for a joke tweet from when he was a kid should mean Firmino's ban is much bigger. But again like you said, the FA will find a way to not punish Firmino and throw the book at Holgate.

It would also create an incredibly dangerous precident too. That would effectively mean nay fan can scroll through any footballer's social media accounts and, if they find anything similar, that player HAS to be banned for the same length as Holgate was. There would be absolutely no way around that for the FA if they ban him for this.

They can't say anything if there's an ongoing investigation.

The only thing that needs to be criticised here is the FA. Well, that and those mongoloid Liverpool fans who dragged the tweets up in the first place because they were offended by the possibility one of their players had racially abused Holgate...

Common sense should prevail. Instead we've just got the FA doing all they can to tarnish the career of a young English player while simultaneously making sure they don't upset the apple cart. Jokers.

Mate, none of them were offended by the tweets, they happened 6 years ago. They don't care about that, they care about putting a young boy down because he cares to show their club up for exactly what they are.

I know it's a iffy subject, but why have they decided to pull up stuff on two black players? Especially when a race investigation is going on? Loads of white players have scored winners against them since twitter had been around.

Wow, I was convinced they would wait until Firmino was cleared due to a lack of evidence before they went on the counter-attack but I guess I underestimated how sinister an organisation they actually are. Truly despicable club and their stranglehold over the sports media in this country despite being in title irrelevance for virtually the same length of time as us is nauseating.

I am annoyed, but people need to realise that what goes up on social media is there forever.

Additionally, you also don't have full ownership of what you post the moment you decide to post it.

Should have deleted his account once he became a professional footballer and this should have been advised by the club.

I really hate social media.

Yep, whoever coined the phrase 'ashamed of nothing, offended by everything' well and truly hit the nail on the head.

I don't bother with it and sure as hell wouldn't if I was famous, but what example are the FA setting here if they start banning players for this. This opens the door to absolutely anything. Liverpool fans are clearly the saddest people on earth, you have absolutely no life if you're prepared to go through 6 years worth of tweets from a footballer. I can picture it now. All these 10 year old Liverpool fans now going around the school playground with their camera phones on now asking all the other kids to call them a naughty word. They'll keep this video for 12 years and that one boy who called them that offensive word is now a 22 year old footballer for Everton. This sad lonely Liverpool fan takes the video to the FA just after said player has scored their first ever goal and they ask the FA to ban them.

What do they do? Well, we pulled up tweets from a 15 year old, why not prosecute an act of a 10 year old.

Agreed and the second part of your post is absolutely relevant to the club and it’s housekeeping but as to the first part the lad was 14 . To put that kind of responsibility onto a child is crazy , if I think back to what I was like at 14 and if people could use my actions then to judge me in later life . My head would spin .

There is a reason why in many cases a child’s juvenile record doesn’t follow them around throughout life but apparently if you make an allegation against a RS your tweets do.
