That's fair enough it just seems people seem to hate on The Queen, the person, for what the Monarchy represents and its dark past, which is just wrong, the Queen as a person was far from evil or crap and doesn't really deserve the hate that the monarchy itself might deserve

But if you are going to be a symbol as a Queen is, rather than a person, I don’t see how you divorce yourself of what that symbol represents, both for good and for ill.

And the British monarchy’s darkness is not even in the past, there have been plenty of examples of unpleasantness done in the past 70 years of her reign.

I imagine as an African or an Irishwoman I’d have a very different outlook on the Queens past decades both as a person and a symbol.

The Queen is part of that past. The Good Friday Agreement was 1998. There are a whole host of African countries whose independence didn't happen until she was on the throne. Independent India only predates her by a few years and obviously happened while she was a part of the line of succession.

I'm just saying there are a lot of people around the world who will not be able to separate her from that which the monarchy represents and I don't really think they're wrong.

This, there has been an undercurrent of trouble brewing for many years regards allegations of wrong doing by, ahem, king charles as he is now by an ever growing list of former staff. It won't take long for the press to start pushing again.

It's amazing what our media doesn't think is interesting enough to say about your royals that can be turned up in five seconds with Google. But then, it's amazing what our media will say about our own politics that can be falsified in five seconds with Google.
