In Australia a recent poll taken just the other day shows a 5% drop in Republicanism since all the pageantry has been wall to wall on the tv
That's to be expected I think. Polling in Scotland when it resumes will reflect the same, a drop in support for independence which could be quite marked given the prominence of Scotland in the events.

I realise the SNP want to retain the monarchy but royalism is always going to be associated heavily with the union.

It will probably not have anything other than a short-term effect though assuming Charles will be found wanting in comparison to his late mother.

King Charles as expected wants all the police to swear an oath of allegiance to him - plus has made all his former staff when he held the Prince title redundant - unlike our former Queen - this guy will meddle in politics in the future ......

I have no respect for him after the Diana affair in that tunnel ......plus the way he made the two young boys walk behind her coffin ....

I just dont like the guy .....& I am not an anti-royalist ...... but will be if he starts interfering in politics .....
To be fair he can't do any worse than the clowns running the country right now.

Bet he’s 5hitting himself now mate

So the news is now the sole preserve of monarchists ?

No one else’s perspectives or primary concerns, like the cost of living crisis, matter, whilst this mournfest plays out ?

I get it now, I’ll put my selfish concerns to one side like an obedient serf, until trivia such as the above is deemed worthy of mention.
Come on mate, you're surely better than this.

The news is obviously not the sole preserve of monarchists. Equally, the TV news is hardly an objective source of information, nor does it ever cover a wide range of topics. Does anyone really pay much attention to mainstream broadcast TV news these days, when so many alternatives of superior quality, depth and range are readily available? Do you really think the BBC would be doing great work covering the cost of living crisis if the Queen hadn't died? I doubt it, because they weren't doing anything much on it two weeks ago.

Your concerns regarding other topics that should be covered by the news are very valid indeed, but the news wasn't covering those topics before either, so why on earth blame the Queen / the monarchy? Makes no sense.

You remain perplexed because you are not listening to anybody else's thoughts on the matter and have set you stance in stone.

That's on you not on other people. It is also totally your prerogative to be that way.

It's not just about the immediate vicinity of the funeral is it?
I am listening, hence my reference to the oft-mentioned complaint of being forced to mourn - by pointing out that no-one is being forced to mourn. By comparison, there was a lot of women's football on the telly recently, but I didn't feel forced to like it or play.

Interesting reply though pal, thank you.
