They are fascinated by it in the way a child would be at a zoo though. It's like some weird farce.

It is really weird, and from afar we would all laugh. It's kind of bizarre when it's our country though, in 2022.
The whole pantomime is as genuine and authentic as a Disneyland parade.

All the reverence in the commentary, spoken as if some sacrosanct, centuries old ceremony was being played out.

It’s at best a Victorian invention, so just over 100 years. Introduced to play Billy Big Bollix and wind up the Germans and other European powers.

It’s what they did in those days, to project power and wealth. When most countries were monarchies and state burial ceremonies were the Eurovision song contest of their day.

The current crew have embellished the Victorian ceremonial, with added military to maximise the PR impact, by instilling nationwide grief, not far short of mass hysteria.

The incessant 24-7 coverage is all part of building, reinforcing and normalising the madness. They know what they are doing only too well and it is shameful.

The rule book for state funerals is far more basic in terms of the ceremony it mandates. It also includes details of previous ceremonies for comparison.

It's updated all the time.
Is it really? some of the decisions might contra-indicate that.
Obvs all the traffic roads stuff is. But the pre existing protocols? They've not changed since 1952 when radio was the big thing (or 1752 for that matter)...and the down the track decisions that flow from an out dated premise?..then you add the people making those decisions into the mix.
Viola!
The dogs breakfast we have now, like the Center Park fiasco.

I felt sorry again for William and Harry, seeing 97 again, realising the suffering then but seeing it again now, just a young man and a little boy follow their mother. Retreading that old ground, I realise they did the same for their idiot grandad, the requirement for subtlety, the respect for the spectacle (ouch!) and the inner turmoil to balance and subsequently deal with. "A nation expects". Perhaps a nation shouldn't.
I liked Diana Spencer infinitely more than the rest of them, from 'aids awareness' to 'landmines' to getting stitched up by bashir. Anyone pals with Elton and George cant be a bad judge. Hmm. Conflicted.

I've been looking at YouTube of George V and George VI funerals and what struck me was that the military precision was the same but the folk following the gun carriage were more relaxed and not always in step. It was more natural in fact.

This time it's like a performance that cannot deviate. I'm not sure what that says in wider terms.

They're updated all the time - they have to be, but some things will remain fixed. There will likely be contracts with contractors that include clauses matched to that plan.

As for the decisions of center parks - they should've just done nothing. They could've sat it out and done a statement of condolence. That would've been enough.

Performative grieving. This is the culmination of weirdos crying and posting "i'll never forget you" all over social media whenever a celebrity they never met dies. Now they get a week of it to wallow in and film themselves.
