Transfer Rumour Hayden Hackney

Don’t know how true any of the latest is, and I don’t think he’s an essential purchase in any case, but this all does seem to speak to the biggest issue we will face this summer.

We have nothing to offer prospective signings.

No Europe, which half the Premier League has. The manager is not one to inspire belief in young players (or their agents). We’re 12 months into this “new project” and life at the stadium, so there is no mystique around that.

Deals for sought after players won’t get done unless we are prepared to pay more than others. And everything out of the club seems to suggest we are not willing to do that, so we will continue to miss out on top targets and shop among the rest. Just like last summer.

Don't know how true reports of Palace happy to give £20m for him are, but if that's the case, I wonder if £15m plus a percentage of future profit gets this done. Potentially more lucrative for Boro long term, and would mean we don't have to stretch to 20 (for a player that most would agree isn't the profile we need).

The new Ground is a big pull mate ;)

….it really doesn’t matter what Palace offer if the player doesn’t want to go there.

Palace will probably lose Wharton for a lot of money so £20m for a replacement would seem a sensible strategy for them unless they are waiting on their new manager.
