Isn't it also a bit of revisionism to say we've always been a club who didn't wave cash around?
'Mersey Millionaires' for instance?

Simply....yes. why shouldnt we try to push our way in with money...its worked for the top 4 for years. We have money now....not a citeh amount but at least we seem able to compete with best of the rest. If we can grab a top 6 place by spending dosh...its no worse than the jokes of clubs citeh, Chelsea were before the money came in.....I would of prefered us to earn it the honest way....but it seems no one else plays with a straight bat.....so sod itWithout casting judgement on whether it is for better or worse, have we finally lost the Everton Football Club of the last couple of decades? The one that tried to maintain the old footballing values whilst still persevering to compete with those capable of winning silverware merely by producing the chequebook, the one that put team spirit and a feel for the Club on a par with ability, and one that acted with class and dignity in all footballing matters?
The trend towards aligning with everyone else in the chase for success has been evidenced since the departure of Martinez, most recently with the merrygoround of managers at GP, the tapping up of Silva last year, and now the blatant demotion of younger talent in the wake of yesterdays foreign signings.
Again, I'm not suggesting this is necessarily all for the worse. Heaven knows we've suffered enough under the 'plucky Everton' culture. But there is still a tinge of sadness in now just joining the rest in the unseemly quest for success.
Seen a interview with clough years ago where he said forest paid £999,999 for himDefinitely was Trevor Francis.

Nah mate, sooner Usmanov joins the better. ..it’s about being successful. If you are very successful you tend to have the right types.
