Have we finally given up?

Who cares ....I just want to see us play boss togger and win something , life was much simpler when we done that.
I only want to see the best players we can buy / beg / steal or loan playing for us.
If any youngster can break through it means they are going to be very very good.
Lets face it , it hasnt really been hard for any half decent kids to get in this team over the past couple of decades.

Only the best ....& all that.

Without casting judgement on whether it is for better or worse, have we finally lost the Everton Football Club of the last couple of decades? The one that tried to maintain the old footballing values whilst still persevering to compete with those capable of winning silverware merely by producing the chequebook, the one that put team spirit and a feel for the Club on a par with ability, and one that acted with class and dignity in all footballing matters?

The trend towards aligning with everyone else in the chase for success has been evidenced since the departure of Martinez, most recently with the merrygoround of managers at GP, the tapping up of Silva last year, and now the blatant demotion of younger talent in the wake of yesterdays foreign signings.

Again, I'm not suggesting this is necessarily all for the worse. Heaven knows we've suffered enough under the 'plucky Everton' culture. But there is still a tinge of sadness in now just joining the rest in the unseemly quest for success.
Nil satis surely

"all these dam foreign signings, the yoof wont get a chance waaaaa"

still forgets we have about 10 english players in the first team
10? I'd be guessing that by the end of the month there'll be 4. Not that I'm bothered what the nationalities are so long as we avoid out and out mercenaries with a total disconnect from the club.

I love having young English talent in the squad but most of them are simply not good enough (as nailed on starters) at the moment for what the club wants to achieve. Whether they are English, Brazilian, American (I wish), etc. we need to be signing and playing the best players available to us. Ademola, Tom, Dominic, Jonjoe, etc. are all good squad players that should make an impact this season, as I expect them all to be given lots of chances. I am a little surprised to see Dowell staying with the first team but that has me similarly excited as I think he deserves a shot, as well.

All this to say, I see nothing wrong with the direction of the club and actually think our collection of young English talent is quite impressive as compared to the rest of the league. Lets continue to snatch up young English talent and give them chances the other big clubs wouldn't, while also allowing Brands to do his job and bring in the best foreign talent available.

One final point: the merry-go-round of managers is down to them all being crap. Hopefully this new era will provide stability in that area and Silva stays in his post for a long time.

I would say hardly, considering we have the 7th highest income in the league, and we spent the 6th most. Until we are spending at #1 or #2 than we havent done any more buying that any other team in the league, just spending what is reasonable.

No, we’re just finally have owners who have the funds & ambition to compete. We’ve been going backwards for over 30 years. Left behind by our competitors.

Moshiri certainly made mistakes. Probably due to listening to Kenwight. Hopefully he learned lessons & we can now move forward.

I don’t agree that young talent has been demoted. The 5 players bought in this window are all 25 or under. We just raised the bar. If our home grown kids are good enough, they’ll rise to the challenge.

My hope is that Kenwright & Woods will be bought out very soon.

The use of the label 'foreign' was on purpose , since the records of integrating overseas players into the British style of play and settle in a new environment etc (ie and so helping maintain team spirit) do not by and large make for the greatest read. It's bad enough nowadays even to get southern based players to move north!

So if boss players are available for a reasonable price and we've got the money to make it happen, we're meant to ignore it so as to not be "merely producing the chequebook"?

We're getting nowhere if we don't at least attempt to compete. As romantic as the notion of developing Dowell, Davies, Lookman, Kenny etc alone into star players and snubbing all the foreign talent everyone else is snapping up is, it'll end with us in the Championship.
