Have we finally given up?

Without casting judgement on whether it is for better or worse, have we finally lost the Everton Football Club of the last couple of decades? The one that tried to maintain the old footballing values whilst still persevering to compete with those capable of winning silverware merely by producing the chequebook, the one that put team spirit and a feel for the Club on a par with ability, and one that acted with class and dignity in all footballing matters?

The trend towards aligning with everyone else in the chase for success has been evidenced since the departure of Martinez, most recently with the merrygoround of managers at GP, the tapping up of Silva last year, and now the blatant demotion of younger talent in the wake of yesterdays foreign signings.

Again, I'm not suggesting this is necessarily all for the worse. Heaven knows we've suffered enough under the 'plucky Everton' culture. But there is still a tinge of sadness in now just joining the rest in the unseemly quest for success.
There's nothing unseemly in the quest for success, by monetary means or otherwise. I feel so sorry for the fans who have yet to see us win anything, and it's about time that ambition is being shown that reflects our history.

Couldn't give a monkey's chuff. As mentioned earlier EITC retains the heart of this club. 'Football' as it is left us standing despite the fact we were one of the main protagonists. Carter. He left us completely unprepared to take advantage of the changes and we've fallen behind.
Besides, we are the club, as long as we don't act like tits and turn into those banjo plucking bellwhiffs over the park we'll be fine. ;)

This club does more for the surrounding community and is continuing to make headway in improving the lives and the conditions of our great city.

That is something to be immensely proud of. We have always been a credit off the pitch.

Now it is time to start making the same waves on it. Football has moved away from what I grew up with and that will not return now. We need to be matching Manchester City's levels, and even if we fail, at least we are now trying.

Nice story grandad.

Only joking mate.

We need to win stuff.

Last 2 decades we have kidded ourselves that “its about sumert more than just winning”. And we did that because we were not winning.

Its always the teams that dont ein anytging that bang on about crowds and morals and that kind of stuff.

Regardless of what we do let's agree to take the City model of not defending racism and more often then not being reasonable and not massive bellends despite the success

10? I'd be guessing that by the end of the month there'll be 4. Not that I'm bothered what the nationalities are so long as we avoid out and out mercenaries with a total disconnect from the club.

Got news for you, mate -- that describes 99.44% of today's footballers.

i dont think so, we are just adjusting ourselves to stay competitive. the game has moved on and so must Everton. we have invested where we needed it as a club. im looking forward to seeing our sexy new talent in action

In our history we were the team that set the transfer record. Everton had the first Million pound player. We aren't changing anything we are getting back to our roots so to speak. As a club we must progress or stagnate in the ash of mediocracy. Look at Villa, Stoke Newcastle all bounce up and down the leagues. Throughout the years we have survived and managed to be the top club to have the longest record of top flight football. Man U Chelsea Red Sht and City all floundered in the lower divisions while we were playing with the elite.
We have always been and forever more will be the Elite of the league, and I for one don't care how we do it!
