2025/26 Harrison Armstrong

….we have a CM axis of 3, with these showing they’re very capable in those positions;
KDH
Garner
Gueye
Iroegbunam
Rohl
Armstrong

You could also factor in Alcaraz and McNeil as possibilities but difficult to see either gate crashing the party.

That’s quite a lot of options and it’s an area we look particularly strong. When fit, Garner and KDH look a shoo-in so in reality we have 4 (Gueye, Iroegbunam, Rohl and Armstrong) vying for one position.

Heckingbottom says ‘David and his coaches know what they have with Armstrong’, but I wonder if he’s actually surprised them with his level. Saying that, looking at all the options we have then it might not be the biggest surprise if Armstrong goes back even though I prefer him to stay.

Given we still have an outside chance of Europe and given that Grealish might be a long-term absentee and we could and probably will have more injuries and suspensions sending him back would be crazy. But then Moyes.

It depends how you look at it

I would argue Moyes would definitely play the following ahead of Armstrong (rightly or wrongly)
  • Garner
  • Gueye
  • Dewsbury Hall
  • Iroegbugnaham

He might play the following ahead

That's 6 players for 3 positions, obviously we don't know when KDH will be fit and Garner, Gueye & Tim love a yellow card,(not sure when the bans stop).
There is also the thought process from Moyes (gain Moyes not me) that Armstrongs form could dip due to his age and being used to the amount of gams throughout a season (20 so far), you would prefer him to have that dip at Preston than at us

Based only on what I saw against Villa I think he's ahead of Iroegbunam (who often looks gassed around the 70 minute mark) Rohl has improved but his injury record is still a concern and although I'd imagine Moyes will start Gana automatically really KDH's injury means we should keep him here.

Doubt it, he’s the best midfielder we have and he’s proved it in a few games.
The potential, the level of his ceiling, yes. Is he yet, No.

You need to not let expectations blind you from his age and progression.

Either he will take a hit for form dropping, or Moyes will take the hit from him not being a guaranteed starter..

If we send him back out on loan I think it would be one of the most ridiculous decisions I've ever seen. He's been one of our best players recently. Far too good for the championship. And we hardly have enough players for a match day.

I'd honestly have little faith in the competency of the management if they decide to send him out.
