2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

Nowhere near being ready for significant minutes in the premier league. Did well for the goal but it was a pretty simple piece of play and he nearly pushed Gana too wide. Apart from that he did nothing of note in the first half. Second half he looked completely out of his depth and a bit of a liability. People let hope/desparation cloud their judgement in relation to young players.
Might have been simple, or maybe he made it look simple. Jack Harrison, McNeil and doucoure would have messed that up a lot more than they would have got it right

I dunno mate, I thought that was an easy piece of play to mess up

Showed calmness and composure to hold the ball and not release too early

Waited for the runner and timed the pass well

Thought it was basically on a plate for Gana

I don't think Doucs or Harrison are as cerebral and we possibly don't score

Yep, I thought he completely let that 2nd half pass him by, caught out a couple of times and one was nearly costly.

I'm always looking for a player to really step up and make the manager take note and the ones who have been given some minutes so far (Patterson, Tim, Armstrong and to a lesser extent Barry last night) none of them look to me like they'd dislodge the ones currently in the 1st team. That was really disappointing on that front

I don’t like judging players playing out of position. If he’s a deep lying midfield player then playing an inside forward position is going to be a challenge. He seemed to start as the right hand side number 10 with Ndiaye as the left hand side one. Imagine putting Gueye there, or Carsley, or Gareth Barry. They’d look terrible.

How did he play ?
We had 30% possession in the first half, not sure on possession stats 2nd. But he needs the ball, like ndaiye and unfortunately we didn’t see a lot of it. Surrounded by a lot of poor footballers doesn’t help and Beto was also not keeping the ball. He’s wasn’t great, but you can see he has talent.

While I agree to a certain extent, some of the ones in the 1st team you talk about are garbage 8/9 games out of 10, but as they’re seen as 1st team players they automatically keep their spots. I’m sure we’re both hoping we have massive upgrades on McNeil, Patterson, garner, even Alcaraz come the start of the season.

But if it was starting tomorrow, I’d have no issue playing Armstrong next to gana in midfield, instead of garner

I don't think it'll happen mate. Garner is a shoe in until we replace him with better.

Desperate to replace Patterson and Mcneil though, simply nowhere near the level required. Mcneil on the right just makes me want to throw the TV through the window.

In the 18s He played 10 or box 2 box with the other Patterson sitting. Same at 20s with him allowed more freedom and Metcalfe, Butterfield in the pivots.
