You can keep your transfer rumours; @davek getting irate over harmless football terminology is the kind of content that keeps me coming back. The '6' '8' nonsense.
It's the type of language the Sky-era fan uses when trying to garner some credibility.
That's wnhat they do. Talk 'old fashioned' positional numbers to make it look like they're authentic. As if a sky era fan can talk old football.
6 and 8 for me is from the Everton sides of old, Peter Reid and Bracewell.
Are the sounds around MGW to us dead in the water mate?Big thing in all of the above is not just the fee but what the selling club is willing to accept in terms of upfront payments and subsequent deal structure.
This is the main issue/sticking point with any of our targets this summer.
In the case of Betis, due to their own finances not being great (COVID impact), they might be more willing to accept a lower upfront payment than say, Wolves would be for Morgan Gibbs-White (different types of player I know but the club were pretty convinced they would have MGW in already).
first time I’ve heard using the typical numbers to describe the position on the pitch as a nonsense, but ok :’)The '6' '8' nonsense.

Hes good on the ball, but a lot of this is how bad our midfield is too.
I'd say he is a 7 out of 10 for possession. But hes a 9/10 for defensive stats. Not a million miles off Gana, but better on the ball and better in the air.
As indicated would be a perfect 6 of what we need (defensive stats) but could also do what Lampard wants (take the ball off the defence ah la Winks/Gilmour)
Love the way them and talksport have started talking about players “numbers” in relation to their stats, gives them a feeling of false knowledge I guess???That's wnhat they do. Talk 'old fashioned' positional numbers to make it look like they're authentic.
Not that I'm putting you in that category like.
Yes I am
I like Allan a lot, by all accounts he has a great attitude. But he was always a box to box midfielder who's legs were going. Weve been a little unlucky with injuries, but honestly that's what we expected.
The problem is, his game was never about positioning. Hes also quite small. As his physical attributes have waned, so has his effect. Think this will be the last year for Allan unless he takes a big pay cut.
This Rodriguez is better. But he is also a style of player that will not be as impacted as he gets older. He intercepts well, is bigger, more comfortable on the ball etc. Look at Gareth Barry, who was still ok here into his mid 30s.
I'm not saying we do it, but I can see what they see in him.
The last proper DM we had was one of our best players well into his 30’s.
(I don’t class Gana as a proper DM, but a dynamic midfielder who tackled anything that moved).
I'm confused now, I though he was an 6 or an 8?Yup but gana at 32 is still excellent.
This lad seems to be a very good positional player and has the size, pace that even in 3-4 years means he'll still be very effective
It's a reconditioned terminology that says "I'm authentic, I know what I'm talking about here. I'm using terms our dad's all used".first time I’ve heard using the typical numbers to describe the position on the pitch as a nonsense, but ok :’)
Imagine him, Gallacher and Dacoure/Allan together ...Positionally looks sound as a pound though one thing I'll say is it looks like Betis hunt in packs as about 80% of those clips he has a midfielder or 2 around him. At Everton he'd need to do the job of 3 players. Looks like a very good DM though.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if we got him in.
On stats and 'the eye test' he's basically exactly what we need at the 6
