Lineker never says a bad word against us really, unless it's deserved (in his opinion). He's been on record as saying he always looks out for our scores and regards that team as the best he's ever played in. Plus he was told to leave for Barca, he didn't want away. I look at everything he says in a positive light wrt Everton.

I think lukaku and lineker are similar in that respect that they both see/saw us as a stepping stone to 'greater things'. No need for that comment by lineker btw.
It was tongue in cheek mate. if I thought he was having a dig at us I'd be a bit pi**ed like, but I don't think he was.

All the uncertainty at the moment is horrible I know, but there's two things I hope we don't lose. One is our dignity, and the other is our sense of humour. Two of the things that define us.

I smiled at both Lineker's comments, just saw it as a nice bit of Mickey taking.

It's not like him to acknowledge he even played for us at all tbh....

Ironical thing is with Lineker who style of game we won nothing came close to a double but runners up twice to the red lot - we had to change our style for him - Barcelona placed him on the wing - the same applies to Lukaku he is not not a hold up player needs the ball playing down the sides - how many top teams would he fit in with in the Prem - it would take time like it took us time to adapt to Lineker we had to alter our game we became more direct it worked wonders though with his goal scoring ratio, but again we just missed out - without him we won another title as like lukaku he had a style of play that a team has to adapt to!
Lukaku could spend another season to improve the back to goal aspect of his game -lets see?

Mentioned similar in the 'one man team' thread.

The entire side is set up to feed Rom, hence he appears utterly vital to our team due to the % of goals he is involved in. But this will always be the case as that is what the team is asked to do.

That is where a manager/recruitment is so vital. Ferguson at United made countless changes to a forward line and the team adapted admirably to maintain a top end spot, playing the team to maximise the strikers threat. If Lukaku leaves there is no guarantee he will be provided with the same set up he is afforded here.
And likewise we may change our approach to accommodate any incoming strikers.

We have a midfield full of energy that is improving all the time. That is something all the best teams need.

I'm not sure what he actually said wrong? He said Liverpool will probably be in for him, but in no way was he suggesting we would sell to them. I think he meant every club will be in for him which is true because. Liverpool don't even have a recognized striker, so it would address that area that they desperately need to fill. It would be a cheeky bid- nothing more, nothing less. I think there is no way in hell we sell Lukaku to any team in this league. He should go for more than 70 million in this market.
I saw you noshing le saux off once
