GOT Wrestle Fest Fan Thread

Yeah Owens is one of the best heels they've had for ages because he actually wrestles and acts like a heel.

I wanna see cheating, i wanna see tight grabbing, i wanna see hair pulling, i wanna see rope grabbing, i wanna see eye pokes, i wanna hear trash talking. All behind the refs back.

So yesterday I watched Survivor Series 1997 for the first time ever.

Obviously I've seen clips of the main stuff we all know about but never took the time to watch the whole thing and especially that match.

Whole thing had a weird feel in hindsight. Wonder if it was noticeable at the time.

As for who was wrong and who was right. I think they all acted like a bunch of nobheads.

Pretty underwhelming show really isn't it?

I do like the Main Event though. It's a cracking brawl up to the finish

Yeah, far better than the borefest they served up at WM.

And like @ijjysmith said, Vince and Bret both acted like nobheads really. Problem was, both guys had the right to do so and thought they were doing the right thing at the time. But both got backed into a corner and refused to budge how the other one wanted.

Personally i'd say Bret was more to blame because he was letting personal feelings cloud his judgement, whereas Vince was more concerned with his company (and employees).

Yeah if I had to pick one Bret is more to blame. It's a job. A fake Championship job. And if his employer is telling him to lose he loses.

It's like an actor in a soap being told he's being cut from the show but changing the script to stay in it!

However, Vince could have been nicer about it all.

I watched it after watching the Eric Bischoff interview with JBL (a very good watch by the way) and he said he'd have done exactly what Vince did if it had been the other way round but was happy to take advantage of it all. Although Bret was never the same.

Bret did have the right to refuse to drop the title to Micheals in Canada as per his contract, but it was his ego that wouldn't let him even though it wouldn't have hurt his character at all to do so before debuting in WCW.

Was a real shame what happened though. Bret was one of my fave guys in WWE, WCW in typical WCW style completly wasted him, although his heart wasn't really in it (for obvious reasons).

Problem with Bret is that he loved wrestling too much and took everything about it incredibly seriously.

I largely blame Vince for the situation. It's not hard to look at Bret and realise he wasn't going to do anything daft, and I thought his requests and behaviour at the time of Montreal were reasonable for a guy who had been an icon for that company.

What happened was that Vince's paranoia assumed worst case scenario and instead of sitting down with Bret and planning it out like men, he went for the nuclear option straight away out of fear of WCW, especially after Alundre Blayze did what she did.
