They reckon that within the boundary of the City walls there's a pub for every day of the year and very few seem to close or get ripped out and ruined, due to it having an all year round tourst trade / cash coming in.

The non chain restaurant is a belting idea, although I think it's a bit more subjective with it being food rather than beer !
What time you going to bed.

I can totally believe that! When you step of the train there are two in the station and it's not exactly Paddington!

Bit nearer to home - The Albion, off the City Walls in Chester.

A pub that has not changed inside since the First World War, as you can see from the pics.

Al Murray surely based the " Pub Landord " on the licensee of this place.

The pub is " family hostile ", does not serve " poofs or tarts drinks " cocktails or shots. Has no music or gaming machines and race goers are not generally allowed in. ( last time I went in, I went in through the kitchen as the front was locked up to keep race goers out ! ).

The licensee has been here for nearly 40 years and it really is " his gaff ". Compete with pub dog and cat, that steal your food if you're not vigilant.

The food is amazing for the money with the oatcakes being the pick at about £4.00 a serving.

A wide variety of real ales which are all perfectly kept and a massive selection of whiskeys.

A true gem of a pub.

Absolutely love that pub, always try and visit if we're in Chester.

Pervil of the Peak, Deansgate, Manchester.

Another Victorian gem, with a long serving land lady who operates to her own rules.

Difficult to get to in a car, due there being nowhere really to park nearby.

It's like an oasis in the middle of all the office buildings that have grown up around it over the years. How it's survived is amazing.

Stunning inside, beautiful ale and all kinds going on, live music etc.

Seems to keep its own hours though and can seemingly be shut for no reason at all !

The Cricketers - Brighton .

In the historic Lanes off Brighton seafront.

Like an oasis amongst the bars of Brighton.

There's been a pub on the site since the fifteenth century.

Superb food for a pub, immense selection of well kept ales, massive top shelf and live music most weekends.

One of my favourite pubs in the UK.

Damn. We were there last week and walked right past it! Went to the Evening Star instead.
