That's the same as me, just. Sound a healthy weight tbh mate given your height. I need to do more cardio in the week I think.

Yeah. I feel better! Need to learn to lift, haven't a clue tbh! Can't be hard though, still need to refine my diet.

What does that actually mean? Serious question...

Do them weights 12 times? Then have a rest, then do it again 12 times? and so on?

You can do it either way. Low weight + high reps for definition, high weight + low reps for mass.

Dunno how much weight you want to shift, but cardio is the best way of burning calories. As the weather's improving, maybe run or cycle to the gym so you get some cardio before you hit the weights.

Cardio is very good, but it's muscle wasting. So you have to bear in mind that your BMR is going to drop. Cardio works wonders if you have the time to do lots of it, otherwise as you correctly state it's a tool along with diet. Cardio is best after weights though, you're glycogen stores are thoroughly depleted at that stage and you're just burning fat for fun with the cardio.

Interval training is excellent on your days off the weights.

It's worth remembering that six packs generally appear not when you've got lots of stomach muscles but when you've got little body fat.

It's easy to go all out on the weights and ignoring things like diet and cardio.

To put it into perspective. I've just done an hour on the bike and have burnt around 1,000 calories. It'd probably take 4 hours of weights to do that.

If you're burning a thousand calories, it's worth bearing in mind your power output is going to be substantially higher than the average cyclist or novice. You're peddling that cog at a much higher rate than a normal person could.

If you lifted weights for four hours, you would be substantially more screwed from it than if you did cardio for an hour, burn out from weights happens a lot more quickly than it does from cardio for a reason. Also the calories burnt will again be relational to how much you can lift etc. But as a general rule of thumb, yes you're going to burn a decent amount of calories on the bike, just bare in mind it is muscle wasting.

Aye, fair enough. Needs to be something you enjoy. Don't much care for running either.

To put it into perspective though. To lose 1lb of fat you need to burn around 2-3,000 calories more than you eat.

Alot of fad diets see you losing water etc. which is why it's hard to sustain things.

As I'm a shade over 57kg, I can confirm that cycling does the trick for keeping slim :)

Point proven on the muscle wastage, that's not a slight by the way. I wanted to be a cyclist as a kid, totally the fault of Kevin Costner and the American flyers movie (y)

Low weight = Big muscles, that's why bodybuilders lift light weights for reps. High weight and low reps = strength and very little size. That's why you see little guys lifting big weights in the olympics, they don't do high repetition work. Well that and they might not be able to gain weight, phenotypes etc.
