Im not sure on the law as I’m not a lawyer, but I would assume pointing a stolen taser at a police officer would be argued as an example of lethal force being justified. Say he pulls the trigger and one of the officers is stunned, that’s a life threatening situation.

However he could have been shot in the back, we don’t know as the video doesn’t show it.

I'm just saying they cant have it both ways. You cant say a tazer is non lethal and be allowed to use them whenever you feel the need without oversight and then kill somebody for pointing one at you.

I don’t know as it’s hard to tell from the video, because he goes out of the frame.

Main point being I’m not sure it’s appropriate to decry more police officers as racist murderers without a proper investigation because it fits the narrative some people want to tell.

Clearly if he was shot in the back it’s a different story, but I saw a report that he turned and pointed the taser at the officers.

I think if the police want to stop being framed as racist murderers they need to stop unnecessarily murdering/violating black people. I mean it sounds quite simple saying it back, but that would go long way.

I also think, if their view is shooting someone for having a taser as acceptable policy, that will not go down well. Structural policies need to be looked at.

99.999% of police officers dont murder black people. Why would you ring fence millions of people in such a way ?

I don’t mean ’you’ as in you specifically, btw.

If its like every taser I have ever heard of, its a one-shot thing (though if he knew what he was doing he might have been able to remove the bit that shoots the wires and just have it as a contact taser).

Though watching @Nymzee's video there it is perhaps significant that the cop who chases him looks like they still had their taser (they throw it away just before they get their gun out), and their colleague wasn't nearby (though one might have been coming into shot at around 0:15). The cop might have had justification to do that (shoot him) - though the taser would be non-lethal, being stunned by it would mean they would have reason to fear that they wouldn't be able to stop the bloke taking their actual gun off them.

Its the sort of thing that really needs a jury to decide one way or another.

I think if you combine the original video with the CCTV it seems to show the chasing officer discharges his taser and misses, and is running after the Brooks with it still in his hand, then Brooks points the stolen taser at the officer and seems to fire it, at which point the officer takes his gun out and shoots Brooks.
