Completely wrong context

Whether you like to think of it that way or not, the slave trade at that time was no different to spice or any other trading product. So someone investing into it wasn't doing so to be evil, they were simply making business decisions.

Without knowing each and every person personally we have no idea what these people were like other than being product of their times.

It's all well and good having the context now to say how evil it really was, because it was.

This is absolute trash. Loads of people said this was wrong at the time, indeed (in a slightly different context) there was a famous debate between Sepulveda and de las Casas over whether some men were by their nature slaves or not.

That some people ignored the evidence of their own eyes because they were making a fortune doesn’t mean it was the done thing.

Will they tear down any hospitals and schools funded by slavery? Are they going to do that everywhere ? Remove all trace of the slave trade in the UK.

Hospitals, schools, charity organizations etc serve a purpose. Why would people knock them down when they can just change the name. I'm glad you are not making city planning decisions!

It would be like saying when Megafon got the sponsorship for Goodison, instead of just whacking a massive sign on the Park End like they did do, they should knock the ground down and rebuild it.

The streets that were named after slave traders were changed on the fly recently by protesters by putting a new sign up (Glasgow was it?), they didn't knock down the whole street! That would be incredibly stupid.

When you get ganged up upon and see posters quoting each other and making snide comments indirect and direct. It creates an environment which is hard to be reasonable.

Now I haven't got the time to go through every single post like you do to make these examples and I'd find a lot more vitriol directed at me rather than me dishing it out. But at least I'm calling to be reasonable.

TBF the prohibition on making images of living things isn't universal, though the usual people who push their own form of Islam as the only true one are trying to make it so (even though it would mean their TVs, phones etc are forbidden).
