In the US, African American men have a 1/1000 chance of dying at the hands of police.
For those under 50 (which is a fair reflection of the demographic of those protesting) the risk of dying from Covid *if* they catch it is about 1/500. That number is based on confirmed cases so the chances are likely to be much lower than that but we’ll use 1/500 for the sake of argument. So let’s just say they have a 50/50 chance of catching the virus if they are outside and wearing a mask (which is probably way too high at the moment).
Effectively, for a young black man, the risk of dying at the hands of police isn’t a million miles away from them dying of covid.
Now you could argue that they might want to think a little more about other people, older people who are more vulnerable. But why should they? Evidence would suggest people don’t really care about them.
