The problem with the country is participation trophies.
You now have a couple generations that have never learned how to win with some grace, or lose and have to adjust your approach and work harder or smarter.
If I didn't get "my way" clearly something is wrong, and it wasn't "fair" - never enters the mind they may be wrong, or other people may be right or both. Change the rules, change the process, throw a tantrum. And when they finally do win, be vengeful, change the rules, punish the loser, and then blame them because they did it first.
Everything (both sides) is becoming all or nothing. There is no kinda/sorta, if you disagree with me on one thing, you disagree with me on everything - and you're stupid. I can't even tell you why, but someone I've never met did the thinking for me in 140 characters, so here - take that! There are very few things in this world that are truly binary, and it's a lot less than our "leaders" would have us believe. That's not to say they don't exist, but there is flexibility is most things.
I'm not a total cynic, but I do totally believe this - If society generally functions smoothly and genuinely tries to find real solutions to real issues themselves...they have much less reliance on politicians (elected and unelected) or "champions, and that's bad for business. Fear-mongering, falsely inflaming situations, creating tempests in teapots, and stirring up shi* is a HIGHLY profitable cottage industry on both sides, and it's primary goal no matter what it's slogan say, is self-preservation and sustainable revenue stream. And we've all allowed someone to pull our strings before without even realizing it.
Except sports. If you are a Liverpool or Alabama fan, your probably really are just stupid
