If she didn't come across as such a credible witness they could have gotten away with saying she's a liar. However, anyone who watched the testimony that day could see she her credibilty. Not the same can be said about the other person who gave testimony that day.
Even Fox News was saying how credible she was in the immediate aftermath of her testimony. Until they got their marching orders and got back in sync with the WH

Ok - If you’re genuinely enjoying shadenfreude currently, then basically yeah.

Only you can answer that.
I have been sympathetic to Ford, even more so after seeing her live. I don't know what happened to her, or who did it, but it's revolting. I don't care if she may be a left-coast tree hugging academic elite that I probably couldn't find anything in common to talk with, or whatever the case is - she's a woman, she's a fellow human being. Wishing ill will to or mocking a victim of anything like is..well there are some things that make politics trivial - and this is one.

But speaking of politics, to the clowns leading this craptastic circus...
Schumer, the most powerful elected Democrat in America, who said from day one who it was didn't matter, everyone should vote no and he would do
whatever he could to stop him..well at least he was honest about that

Spartacus who used this to launch a Presidential bid, showing how much he cared, by risking his Senate seat because the public needed to see a "classified" email showing that BK was a racist, and the truth had to be known - even as far as to say "Bring it on" when it was pointed out it was a serious breech....when he had been informed already that it had ok'd to release, there was breech....and showed nothing resembling what he said. Bonus points for a black dude calling about a white dude a racist and dropping a movie reference about a slave revolt...that high-quality subtlety, very well played

DiFi who after the hearings were over and the scaremongering about what BK wanted to overturn - like RvW, gay marriage - didn't stand up after questioning his thoughts and record...leaked a personal account someone had asked her not to into the public, because they couldn't block him any other way...

Yeah, if BK is confirmed, I am going to have mixed feelings. But I am going to take great joy in the miserable failure of those 3 who had one goal - get to midterms without a confirmation at any cost. Grandstand, throw an abuse survivor out as a red herring (after implicitly ensuring her confidentiality), play the race card, howl that all you really need is an investigation for 'Murica to know, and then once granted immediately claim it's a sham and a farce unless it's open-ended for as long as it takes for you to be satisfied...I will enjoy laughing at them if they fail despite the impressive theatrics that had NOTHING to do with Ford, BK or anyone else. All means to an end, and the end is don't have a conservative court. And step 1 was to get to the midterms, period.

Merrick Garland.

Is Kavenaugh the type of Judge that serves the interests of big business rather than the ordinary citizen (healthcare reform)?

Is it this alleged partisan nature of his, ie to serve the Republican president Trump firstly rather than upholding his civic duty of impartiality, that is p#ss#ng people off in the USA?

If so is it just the few, that serve the so called identity politics of the left, or is it more than that? Are Americans gonna vote Democrat because of this alleged failure of democracy in protest? Or are Americans not really arsed as long as the majority can still live a better than average standard of life?

Kavanaugh was selected (above all the other possible conservative jurists) because of his exceptionally expansive interpretation of Presidential power and immunity.

But yeah, he’s pretty much your standard pro-big business etc etc right wing judge.

He also lied under oath and has multiple accusations of sexual impropriety against him.

But he was pushed through anyway. All in a day’s work.

Except that your entire premise falls down when you realise that this senate is still seated until January and there is no way they wouldn't put a new Justice on there in the lame duck session... But as long as you can sleep at night knowing that Republicans are about to make it 2/5 conservative Justices who have been accused of sexual assault then by all means try and pretend that the Dems had anything to gain from this...

Anyone can be accused. That's why it's merely called "accusing". I could accuse you of sexual assault.

We don't damn the accused unless there's damning evidence.

Or at least we didn't used to. Progress, ay?

Well yes, I used my brain to construct a reasonable assumption

Well, you would say that, wouldn't you?

And so would the others who have a different opinion.

I am not seeing a connection between identity politics and today’s proceedings. If sexual assault is “identity politics” then the phrase has lost its meaning.

Then you are behind the times, or you never understood the phrase to begin with. I've linked 7 articles explaining my point tonight, that should suffice if you want to get clued up.

I've been reading about McConnell. It's disturbing what he has gotten away with. He has butchered democracy in the USA. This may go on for generations. The mostly Republican Supreme Court will now favour right wing policy and unjust laws that favour the wealthy and privileged. This will create greater divides in American society. Abortion, healthcare, civil rights, corporations unaccountable to anybody, tax cuts for the rich, it goes on. Scary times for our American friends.

The Senate used to be the adults in congress. McConnell has changed that forever.

You are correct, but I don't think it would be possible in any way to get a nominee picked, scheduled, hearings and a vote in less than 60 days - especially with the Senate breaks during the holidays. Trump may want to do it, but I don't even think the GOP senators would be ok with that - even if it were possible.

And actually I sleep just fine on that regard. If I had any notion that they had actually had got away with it, based on much of anything, I'd be very troubled by that. But the real reason I sleep ok with it, is that SCOTUS is not something I really think about in my day-to-day life, except in circumstances like these.

I would suggest that if you spend any significant part of your day to day life stressed over who sits on SCOTUS and what they may be doing...that's a good indication that you need to wonder what your Congress is doing with their time and your money. THEY need to be looking at laws and hashing things out that need to be clear. Being the paid Legislative branch - law makers and such. SCOTUS is not supposed to be the unelected law-making body of the US. The fact that we think of them of them as some sort of Left of Right wing extension of the party indicated that the Congress as a whole is miserably failing on their primary duty.
