Carper tapped out up in Delaware. Score one for the Senate getting younger.

Looks like the safe seats this cycle where they can safely do that are all in Democratic territory. Then there's Manchin, where there will be enormous pressure to run.

The Civitas Institute is the brainchild of Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. Essentially, it's the wet dream of the fevered folk who think higher education in the United States is all about creating communists, gender-fluid humans, and haters of fossil fuels. So the goal is to create an alternative that teaches, among other GOP tropes, "limited government".

Guess who is also leading the charge to end tenure at Texas public universities?

I had to pull the guy's CV to figure out why in the heck I didn't recognize him immediately from panels. Timing was off by a couple years.

Ending tenure wouldn't kill good public universities in the states that have them, but it would create an interesting dynamic. They could still attract the job-hoppers with clout climbing the academic ladder in pursuit of larger paychecks, and they could still fill the assistant professor positions (talented enough people can leverage a deal on the support side, then leave for tenure elsewhere). That leaves a lot of senior positions either filled by people who would otherwise be much further down the food chain, or empty. It also leads to a lot of turnover. Those last two kill them dead on the graduate education side, which is a disaster for how Big State U operates.

I would say they could gut social spending to pay for the resulting costs, but they already did that. They would end up raising taxes, and probably losing power. It's a very interesting way to commit slow political suicide.

So the ruling was 9-0 by the Supreme Court, but it was a 'MAGA conspiracy' according to the Democratic Senate Majority Leader? Do Democrats not even care when they're lied to anymore?

Chuck Schumer Slams ‘MAGA’ Supreme Court After All Nine Justices Rule Against EPA on Water Regulations

The entire U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the Environmental Protection Agency this week, which was seeking to impose new measures on regulating bodies of water.

Even though the court’s decision was unanimous, Senator Chuck Schumer couldn’t resist the urge to politicize the ruling, blasting the ‘MAGA’ Supreme Court.

This happens in Supreme Court cases. The case was 5-4 on the important questions. The uninteresting question was 9-0, because it was uninteresting.

Example: on Citizens United, everyone except Thomas joined one part of the opinion. The case was 5-4 on the big stuff. We say it was a 5-4 decision.
