Bro if you're going to debate a point, it's probably not wise to get your information from a source, that is openly left-wing and has been funding Democrat candidates since its creation. There's no objectivity here. I'm not going to debate the 2nd amendment and then proceed to quote the NRA.

ANyways to answer your points, I think the whole point about voter ID laws affecting minority voters is a red herring and it's not allowing our democracy to tackle the real issues such as voter fraud. Voter ID can easily be obtained, it's no issue. Everybody I know, has a voter ID. You need a photo ID to do anything in the country, so why should it not be used for voting? In fact, I'd argue the voter ID laws equally affect the rural elderly population disproportionately, and they are more likely to vote for GOP. In every other civilized democracies, you need ID to vote.
Oh there are plenty of places that detail voter ID laws disproportional impact on POC, including as @BlueTX mentioned multiple court cases, aclu just happened to have some of the most easily available figures. Are you disputing their data eg for instance the “up to 25% of African-American citizens of voting age lack government-issued photo ID, compared to only 8% of whites”

Most of the people I know would have the necessary paperwork too but not only do I live in California where we have made a lot of efforts to make votong easier for everyone but most of the people I know have a car - that doesn’t mean I think that the same conditions apply to everyone. As you yourself point out elderly rural people, particularly the poor, would be far less likely to have access to that form of ID.

I don’t recall requiring an ID to vote when I lived in the UK in the 90s and yet despite that it was generally considered a civilized democracy at that time.

Fwiw I don’t have a great issue with voter ID as a concept although I think the ”voter fraud” issue is small to non existent. The issue I have is that some states have clearly been using it to exclude certain segments of the populous from exercising their constitutional right to vote.

Ronald Reagan was literally the poster-boy for evangelical Christianity being conflated with GOP politics, with many issues that currently exist today. What exactly are you talking about?
That was 35 years ago

And the GOP is even farther right today than that

And people are more educated now

And the country is not as white as then.

Etc

Etc

So while yes, Reagan's policies gave birth to what we see in today's GOP, it was not as far right as today

What exactly are you talking about?

I hear you there. Lots of dead people voting GOP this last election. At least that's who got arrested for fraud based on the evidence

Example #34598 of your arrogance and ignorance.

Obtaining an Election ID in Texas requires an in-person visit to one of the 230 offices available in a state that is 268,579 square miles in size (larger than France and England combined) during regular business hours. If you lived in Texas you would know what a pain in the butt this is even for able-bodied persons. The last time I had to renew my license it took 4 hours. There is no way around the requirement to do this in person for an Election ID.

That you are indifferent to the ability of a person to exercise their Constitutional right speaks very ill of you.
And privilege.

But he doesn't want to hear that

Yep, the ”hang Mike Pence” type chants are now coming from the guy who could win the Missouri Senate seat

And, at least so far, not a squeak of protest out of any GOPers that I can see.

It’s just insanity - the GOP thanks to Trumpism are very quickly descending into some kind of (wannabe) barbaric cult of alt right lunacy. Problem is, as we saw in Buffalo, and several other shootings, their dangerous rhetoric amplified by pricks like Shapiro and Carlson is starting to get people killed by their paranoid canvases which they regularly whip into a frenzy

Voter ID laws disproportionally affect persons of color and were introduced specifically to marginalize those voters. So, you tell me if the idea behind their implementation is racist. If, for instance, the State of Texas were to implement a state-wide effort to provide a Voter ID card to every single citizen that wanted one free of charge, then I'd believe the intent behind the measure was honest. That has not happened.

The GOP routinely receives fewer votes in the United States than does the Democratic Party. That's simply a fact.
This is where I’m at on the issue. As long as the primary form of acceptable ID is your drivers license, which isn’t free to get, I don’t see how these measures don’t qualify as a poll tax, which is expressly forbidden. Stop charging fees for getting a DL, and I’m all for universal voter ID as it could kill two birds with one stone for me. Republicans would have to stop bitching about voter fraud, and I’d save $25 every few years when I have to renew my license.
