Worth a watch IMO.

I watched despite my reservations about Dan Crenshaw. He performed as expected, coming across as eminently reasonable while misconstruing facts or outright lying knowing he wasn't likely to be challenged (witness Trevor Noah repeatedly saying "right" to Crenshaw's comments - regardless whether they are factual or not).

1.5 million border encounters. Bus tickets anywhere!! Yet Rep. Crenshaw doesn't say that 70%+ of those encounters resulted in immediate or quick deportation across the border. 1.5 million is a far greater number and gets people's attention.

Republicans are always "willing to discuss DACA or Dreamers" but only if the border is "secured". That's not a willingness to discuss. Far from it. It's an undefined slogan used to stifle conversation - and it dates back decades to when a Republican POTUS (George W. Bush) wanted to honestly address immigration but was shut down by the far right of his own Party. There are loads and loads of conservative businesspeople in Texas, for instance, who would love to have comprehensive immigration reform because it would help them with labor supply. But it doesn't happen because it's a huge fundraising issue and whips up nativist and scared white people to vote.

Yes, Dan, Texas made it illegal to teach something (CRT) that wasn't being taught in public schools anywhere in the state. But "increased teaching about slavery and Jim Crow laws"? Rep. Crenshaw doesn't say that until 2019, slavery was NOT taught in Texas public schools as the primary cause of the Civil War. Yes, that's right - 2019!! "Sectionalism" and State's Rights (to do what?) were taught as the primary causes. Jim Crow? Not even mentioned in high school textbooks since conservative zealots took over the State Board of Education in 2010. They literally WHITEwashed the history.

As an aside, Dan claims he learned about slavery "ad nauseum" when he was in school. That's odd because he went to school in Katy, TX (that's where he says he "grew up" while also saying his family moved all over) where slavery wasn't part of the curriculum and he spent 4 years and graduated high school in Colombia. It's not real likely American slave history was a big part of the curriculum in Colombia (@Sassy Colombian, wanna weigh in here?). Certainly not enough where he learned about it "ad nauseum".

At least twice Crenshaw acknowledged Noah's point and said an honest conversation could be had about the point... "BUT" and went back to his bogus talking point. In one case he made the comment he didn't understand why "the left" defends CRT because it "seeks to challenge the liberal order". Yo, Dan, "liberal order" isn't necessarily "of the left" and I'm not aware "the left" defends teaching CRT in elementary or secondary schools. That said, the bigger point is Critical Race Theory ISN'T being taught in the public schools of Texas or anywhere else. No school system in the US is telling white schoolchildren that they are "evil", Dan, nor are they teaching non-white students they are permanent "victims". You claim you aren't afraid of "the conversation" but your words regarding the matter suggest that you are given they are directly from the straw/bogeyman created by the political right to scare white people and get their votes.

When Trevor says he believes Dan's views on climate have changed from when he said, (rough quotes here) 1. climate change had nothing to do with Hurricane Harvey 2. the Earth hasn't warmed and 3. the science isn't settled on Climate change - Dan denied saying these things. He said all of them. See here, starting at roughly 4 minutes: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?ref=watch_permalink&v=632055277187223.

Dan Crenshaw is a smart guy. He's also a very, very dangerous guy. Why? Because he tells you he is interested in having "discussion" about matters that are of importance to all, not just the right or left, but there is literally zero evidence of it. He says it over and over but then creates strawmen or mischaracterizes the view of "the other" so as to make it appear as though "they" are unreasonable - all while getting a comedian like Trevor Noah to nod his head (no disrespect to Trevor but he's not a policy wonk).

Crenshaw is, in my experience and many others I know who have worked with him, an ideologue with serious political ambition (and has a nasty mean streak, btw). I don't find him an honest broker. He's political scum.

You’re much more educated than I am on most of these matters TX, and certainly you know more of Crenshaws history and motives.

Though I think you’re off on some of your counter points as well. For example, immediate expulsion was recently reported as below 50% despite the highest rate of encounters in about 20 years.

Re: Climate change I saw someone who acknowledged it as a problem and also brought up some decent points re: impact. To Trevor’s point though, really we can’t control what China does so why focus on them? Be a leader.

I think he made some valid points as well as some idiotic ones, but if nothing else he came across as someone willing to have a discussion. Maybe that’s his game.

Luckily, he has zero chance in this election. Dude got rinsed in election after election in my area. If'we're lucky, he'll get the republican nomination, as of the two Democrats that he'd be going up against, one of them is a moderate veteran that has already beaten him in a House race (Lamb), and the other is a guy that although he is more progressive, ticks a lot of boxes for Pennsylvanians (Fetterman) and is not your typical "politician".
