I've not been nearly as invested in politics lately now that I can go a week or two without our President doing something completely insane. So I haven't been closely monitoring the current debt ceiling brinksmanship. Are the GOP senators going to crash the whole world economy for the hell of it? That's what we're looking at right?

Not to discount Republicans ability to constantly go even lower than my already impossibly low expectations, but I'll believe it when it actually happens. It seems like they just need to do this BS posturing every couple years as a matter of course, but ultimately know they can't actually take the nuclear option. Obviously they don't ACTUALLY care about spending/debt/deficits because we didn't hear a peep about any of that stuff while they controlled the purse strings the past four years.

My understanding though is that the situation is fluid with when we'd default though. So they're already kind of actually doing it because they really are risking an accident here.

I’m honestly not sure, so I guess I need to read a bit on it. A lot like you, I’ve let politics take a back seat to a certain degree now that our President isn’t lighting himself and the country on fire on a daily basis. I just know this seems to come up every couple years when Republicans are out of power, but nothing has ever come of it so far.
Still not sure how to process this but will likely hold my nose and vote for him because no other Dem can win and Dan Patrick is an odious piece of excrement.
That is a truly painful choice, but I get it.

Like some of you I have not been as devoted to posting here ever since we got a new President and the constant worry of having an incompetent person in charged is no longer a worry now that Trump is out of office. However, it is deeply worrying what Republicans are doing to continue undermining our election and our democracy.
So many things to be infuriated about but nothing is bothering me as much as everything that's happening in Texas: from their horrible response to covid by banning vaccine and mask mandates, to taking away women's right to choose, enforcing their own immigration laws, failing to upkeep their energy grid in the dead of winter (depriving citizens of electricity, heat, and potable water) passing restrictive voting laws and now drafting a congressional district map that don't reflect the population growth driven by minorities, something is clearly wrong with this state. Texas is now a beacon of regulation for the sake of deregulation, and oppression in the name of freedom

I'm so fed up with the Republican party and the lies they managed to spit and their followers to gladly swallow.
Even Pence whose head was being called for during Jan 6 by the mob is now trying to spin what happened on that day by claiming it is the media that have sensationalized everything. Like most Republicans now days, all Pence care is his political future not the future of our democracy.
