Good for the MLB for taking a stand against Georgia's voting law.

It’s a good move by MLB, but I feel bad for the people of Atlanta who miss out because they’re the ones who are actually impacted. There’s not a lot of external revenue the state will miss out on by losing an all star game.

When the all star game was here it was mainly out of towers that got tickets. So fan spectacle wise may not be missing out on much.

I do agree on the impact to the economy. Downtown was packed here and businesses where thriving.

Alas sometimes the decisions of those in charge should have consequences and so the people need to look at those they elected who were in support of this.

Worth noting that the All Star Game probably wasn’t going to drive a lot of business in downtown Atlanta. The Braves play about 20 miles outside the city in the suburbs, in a spot where public transportation doesn’t even go thanks to the locals fighting tooth and nail to stop any extensions into the county. The hotels and restaurants in the immediate vicinity will miss out on a bunch of revenue, but going to the game and also partying downtown wasn’t ever going to happen.

Yep I knew it wasn't near their downtown. I've actually been in their new stadium. The brother in law is an MLB umpire. I have a free pass so I have been in quite a few stadiums across the country. It helps I travel for business I guess.

My point was that any business in relative distance would have benefited. San Diego was an example of something I was part of and witnessed etc.... the downtown part being where Petco is. It wasn't a parallel comparison based on its location.

The MLB does throw on events during the 4 days though. So where ever they set that up will lose out. Especially if local busineses were asked to be part of it. Although with covid who knows how that would have looked.

Just curious, how much hype is there actually around the MLB ASG when it comes to town? I didn’t imagine it being the huge party that the Super Bowl or NBA All Star weekend are, but I might be wrong.

Locally they go all out. When it was here all local new channels did a special piece. Businesses advertised like crazy and threw on events.

All backed by the MLB.

There are actually more events (normally) than most think. It stretched from the weekend prior to the night of the game. They are obviously trying to reach the same level as the NFL. Not there yet. The difference I think there are more family oriented events.

The draft was also supposed to be in Atlanta I was reading.

Needs to be more of this. It's not a "free speech" issue or a "let's hear both sides" issue--if you're a lying, attention-seeking, POS, dangerous idiot then you should simply be ignored by the media.

Our country would have been much better off had the media done the same with Trump. Hopefully other local and national media outlets will implement such strategies in the near future.
