Kind of destroys the idea that he coincidentally died of a drug overdose at exactly the same time a policeman was crushing his neck, an utterly grim angle I've heard a lot

I do think the police officer is guilty but I have seen some left leaning people suggest that in situations like this the officer should automatically be guilty (not really sure how thats feasible). The trial is extremely important as it will get all of the facts out there and a true picture can be painted.

I watched the full 15 minute video which starts much earlier on than the one that was typically on social media/the news and it is in clear that Floyd was on drugs of some sort at the time. I'm surprised that the levels in his body where that low as he does seem to act quite irrationally before being put on the ground.

Another part of the video that is sad is when Floyd asked to be removed from the car. If he stayed in the police car he wouldn't have died. Horrible video to watch really.

Look I'm just going to come out and say it mate. I've noticed several times you claiming to be left (whatever that even means) but I can see exactly what you are. A twerp who is neck deep in "culture war" nonsense and is trying to subtly insert his edgy angle into these sorts of conversations without drawing too much fire. You're as clear as day to me.

A highly qualified doctor (one of the world's foremost experts on lungs no less), has just after told us with very high probability what the cause of his death was and you're still rabbiting on about some random tweets you've seen and some talking points you picked up over the last few months to try and find any other explanation other than the obvious one: George Floyd was killed by being suffocated by a jackbooted police officer who showed absolutely no regard for his health or life. Get in the bin ffs

Sorry, but there is a lot wrong with this post. I'll address them by the bolded points.

1. "I have seen some left leaning...". I assume this is based on Twitter or Facebook because no sensible, right thinking, educated person would think this. Maybe you have seen some left leaning people saying this. I imagine if you looked around you would see right leaning people saying much worse...

2. "I'm surprised that the levels...were that low". The doctors in the trial have so far shown it was likely he was suffocated

and that the drugs in his system weren't enough to cause an overdose

3. The final paragraph is just victim blaming. Just because "he got out the car" doesn't justify him being killed

Chauvin is guilty and needs to serve a long time in prison

Mate fair enough you can believe what you want. As I said I 100% think hes guilty and I've voted labour my whole life which is what I mean by being left. I actually left labour when Starmer got voted leader because I think hes a Tory lite type leader.

I try to read both sides of the argument to get a measured view on things because if I just read stuff that validates my own opinion I will end up never questioning my views.

I didn't even mention a tweet? I said I watched the full unedited video and gave my opinion on what I have seen on the video. Everyone who is interested in the trial should watch the full video. What happened is terrible and hopefully the officer will get life to avoid further riots. I definitely don't believe hes innocent at all.

See my post above hes 100% guilty no doubt about that and I'm definitely not meaning to condone that scum bags actions.

But you say you have read stuff that validates your own opinion and have watched the video of him being killed. Watch the video in my post and read the article I shared and I'm pretty sure it will invalidate what you have read and seen. Two experts, one saying it was due to the lack of oxygen and one saying the drugs in his body wouldn't cause an overdose.

I'm not saying you think he should get off or is innocent, but your previous post had a lot of seemingly uninformed opinion. I'm not saying my opinion is correct, but the evidence I have seen so far is pretty clear to me. And it is not based on "left leaning" or "right leaning" people. It's based on what I am seeing experts say in the court case and the way the defense are struggling to make any argument against it.

Reading back I regret my posts earlier this morning as I have put points that I have seen people make and it looks like its my point of view but I'll try to put my opinion on this post.

Basically what I was trying to look at is what the defence will use as counter arguments and whether this will work with the jury. I was thinking that potentially he might get away with a manslaughter charge.

regarding the video/drug comment - on the video it looks like he was on drugs but clearly that obviously doesn't mean he should be murdered. The drug level seemed low to me as his behaviour in the video does look erratic but again regardless he definitely doesn't deserve to die.

The point about the car what I meant by that was it was odd the way it escalated because up until the point he was put on the floor the police seemed to be behaving in a reasonable fashion but then obviously Chauvin has made a disgraceful decision to put him in that position which is why he should be put away for life.

I think Chauvin should spend the rest of his life in prison. Apologies to anyone who has read my previous posts and has got offended. It's difficult to comment on such a complicated case in a few paragraphs.

Mate, I'm not trying to judge you or say I'm right. We're on a forum, we all have our views on things with the information that feeds that. It's just a common thing we all fall into at the moment, myself included, that we see something that backs up things we've read and reinforces opinions we have.

I just think it is incredibly important at the moment for all of us to try and read as much as possible, different views, experts, newspapers, journalists, social media etc. And try to take ourselves outside of our echo chambers. I've been massively guilty of it myself and only recently have I tried to take a step back. But we will continue to falter and trip over ourselves at points. Sorry if this sounds patronising, it's really not meant to. It's just something i've been realising about myself that maybe will apply to others

I get what you are saying. The reason why I try to read a variety of news sources is to make sure that you're getting all of the information.

One of the problems with the world these days is it has become so split. I know the other poster mentioned culture wars and being honest I do check sources like Fox News to see what they're saying about things but I don't believe/support their views. I just find it interesting to see both opinions.

This case is a perfect example as if you watch some American news channels the difference in viewpoint is massive.

The reason why I initially posted about the case was to get some more views on it from other posters. In person it would be easier as you can make it clear that you've seen something from the other side without looking like a tin hat wearing conspiracist.

Viewpoints are fine, as long as people having them are well versed and well sourced in where they are coming from. Anyone that tells me they've watched the George Floyd trial and says anything other than murder is either lying or hasn't watched it.

As I said in my earlier post, I will debate with anyone as long as they are informed. I will call them out if they aren't and I would expect them to call me out when I am not as well.
