I'm generally pro-life but am against this law, it's not right to force victims of rape or incest to have a child they don't want. What I find most interesting about this story though is how liberal New York passed a law this year that would make abortion LEGAL up to 24 weeks. Now, I'm no midwife, but pretty sure premature babies a lot younger than 24 weeks regularly get delivered and survive. At 24 weeks, that's not a bunch of cells anymore, that's a living, breathing human being. This law also included the possibility of obtaining an abortion AFTER the baby had been born (yes, really). Regardless, did anyone on this thread bat an eye lid at this? Did you even hear about it? Alabama, a tiny little state in the southern corner of America, a place probably no one here has no connection with, knows probably nothing about and will never visit does something everyone seemingly finds abhorrent but New York, a city many here have visited or might visit in the future does something you could argue is equally abhorrent - pure silence. Hypocrisy much?

Good piece here about what I'm talking about:

It's really not a good piece. It makes no valid connection between the New York laws and these laws. Just suggests they probably are. The post 24 week abortion law in New York is when the baby won't survive or the mother want.
Also, this was HUGE news, yet unsurprisingly people who are supportive of the law are against Alabama's laws - that's not hypocrisy, they're directly opposed laws. Legalising a woman's right ton get an abortion is one of the truly great developments of modern society what Alabama is doing is dangerous and will lead to huge problems. Alabama isn;'t some cutesy little two person town, it's a state of 5 million people.

No. There's no hypocrisy. I'd advise you read the actual details of each law and you will probably be able to predict the replies to this crap post that you will get.

The part in bold there is all silly one-eyed painting of the facts to make it look extreme. Missing out a lot of detail purposefully.

In short go back to bed.

Meh
the rest of US politics is down there with your local council politics, dogs barking, litter bins etc

Trump IS politics

Trump IS America...not saying it's right or true or any mixture thereof - but it's what plenty think
I despise him but sort of agree with you. They have two choices there. Right wing or very right wing. A country of that wealth that refuses to provide universal healthcare can't call itself civilised in my book. Thank goodness were live in Europe. Farage has similar ideas for our health system. Getting bunged by his mate in insurance may have something to do with it

The partisan in me would secretly hope he wins to see the convulsions and carnage and eventual acceptance of folks in the GOP much like they did with Moore. Make no mistake Trump played the same cards...just a with a bit more subtlety.

The human in me hopes he loses in a landslide. Still can't believe Moore got so much support...but I guess supporting a Trump numbs the soul for some.
Subtlety and Trump in the same sentence. Come on...

You do realise, that literally no one is having voluntary/"contraceptive" abortions at 24 weeks, regardless of the legality?

The people who have to terminate a pregnancy at that stage are doing it for critical medical reasons, and going through likely one of the most stressful, psychologically damaging experiences of their entire lives.

STOP BEING SENSIBLE, WE ALL KNOW THAT WOMEN LOVE TO HAVE ABORTIONS AND USE THEM FOR BIRTH CONTROL, BLAH BLAH BLAH...

Even though I'm used to Repulicans' vicious selfish idiocy, I literally feel sick to my stomach reading these quotes.
