I think that is largely how it will play, albeit with the addition that the Karstarks and Umbers are actually not behind Bolton at all. Bolton will assemble a huge army to deal with Castle Black and it will all turn against him, and he will meet his demise in some grimly comical way.

that is another good version yeah. I can see them playing out the stark bit to be quite significant in the bigger picture. Why else run the sansa direction if it wasn't going to be important later down the line?

I was so hoping he was put on the bonfire, and only to rise as he is a true Targaryen, being the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen and Ned was saying he was his bar-steward to prevent Robert and Tywin killing him

They won't be forgetting the Red Wedding anytime soon. Means the Karstarks are likely duplicitous as well, or at least self serving.
