Do you not think that sometimes you need to have those extreme characters in a world where everything is purposely crossed over for the sake of it? I mean Jamie or arguments sake has had so many good and bad things thrown at him it is hard to even portray him either side of the spectrum.

for me personally, i just enjoy having at least one character so far gone off the scale that you don't need to read them. Sometimes for me, story telling just works when you don't need a backstory to it, ramsey is a evil tit, great. I don't need motivations for him, or reasonings, i can just accept it.

I think considering the general audience of the show, being to convoluted would lead the show into being a bit too pretentious for its own good
I think it's vapid, Joffrey was a a psychopath, who did heinous things, but I could jump on that wagon because the character was well written, and the actor was great, he also had running battles with Tyrion that kept it engrossing, gave Cersei more depth and made us glad of Tywin at times, even if he was clearly a 'bad' guy, they allowed at least his presence to be multi faceted, and it worked very well. Ramsey's only purpose, seems to be so he can be the dark to jon snows light, whom I also find pretty boring, at least with Roose, he added to the political intrigue, which the show runners seem to actually be openly avoiding now, just as well really, we wouldn't want to add depth and come across as pretentious

Ramsey is one of the worst characters and a good example of why the show has become so weak, and proof that the show runners struggle to tell a storyline without a shocking moment or twist, some of ramseys moments are shocking, but ultimately quite shallow, and very often cruel for the sake of being cruel. It's gotten to the point that his most recent act of violence, I just shrugged, it's been overused and I'm quite numb to it, especially with ham acting of his character, theres nothing difficult at all in writing or portraying a character that is completely evil or completely good, in fact it's lazy

thing is there are people that evil that do exist in real life, think the actor is very good myself..guess comes down to personal taste

agree he could do with a bit more character development

he might be a good actor, but I don't think what he is doing is challenging, playing a two dimensional character, and there's always a reason why people are the way they are, it's not a comic book, and people are not born as diabolical villains, they are taking him down this direction purely to be a bogey man for Jon, kind of goes against the 'world building' ethos of the whole game of thrones universe, were people rooted for different sides and outcomes, rather than a star wars good vs bad scenario, i enjoyed the episode more than most recent ones, but i find the direction they are moving towards a little bit disappointing

maybe they will develop him a bit more, but i dont have a problem with the odd evil/good characters seeing as there are so many 'grey' characters already

I'm also biased as it feels like the showrunners are slapping me in the face if the umber's take up with bolton's (where the feck is great jon!), after half of them siding with Stannis in the books

not read the books! but i consider myself an educated fan(haha)

I actually started watching the series before I read the books, didn't start reading them till about series 3, there are plenty of things the tv show actually did better than the books (and vise versa), just a bit disappointed in how they are heading, and since reading the books some of the interpretation of the source material, I think both might actually be suffering from similar issues in the long run

he doesnt know how to end it does he! it just seems so obvious that danerys and jon are gonna be linked in some way and have to team up to defeat the white walkers

Especially if it's Ramsey as warden of the North, I could understand the Karstarks being with him but the other families would oppose him.

Ramsey always wanted his father's approval, now he turns.

this is just a speculation here but what if......

Ramsey calls on houses in the north to be his bannermen, the ones who will support him do so, and he emasses an army to take down sansa and john for good. Meanwhile word of this reaches them, so they essemble an army of nights watch and wildings to take them on. giant dies during this battle btw.

as the north is being split open, the houses who did not rally to the bolton call get word of the army being led by stark banners, who then rally and come to the aid of john and sansa. all of a sudden the wildings combined with the remaining northern houses surround winterfell before shenanigans happen and ramsey is killed after it all.

I think that is largely how it will play, albeit with the addition that the Karstarks and Umbers are actually not behind Bolton at all. Bolton will assemble a huge army to deal with Castle Black and it will all turn against him, and he will meet his demise in some grimly comical way.
