Is there enough variety from the series then to bother reading crows and the 2 dragons book?

Without any doubt at all, yes. Season 5 has been entertaining tv, but the storylines in the books are more numerous and complex. If you don't like reading however, you won't like AFFC.

two things i will point out.

1. until kit harrington gets a hair cut then he will be returning to the show. He clearly isnt going to keep his hair that way aftter the show.

2. they said there would be 7 series so i can imagine next series will just be a series of cliff hangers and build up to make the final season some massive ending to the show.
