Game Of Thrones: Season 8

The best thing I liked about the episode was just watching it, same thing I’ve done with all of them.

If you analyse every little thing, you’re going to find things that don’t make sense. This is because it’s a fantasy series.

There’s a fella who can see into the past and the future, yet he sits there quietly. One of the main characters was brought back to life by a witch, the same witch that got pregnant with a demon, who then went and killed a king. There’s dragons and zombies. There was a fella who could put other peoples faces on and turn into them, he then taught a girl half his size to the same thing; but on putting the face on, she grew to the same size as the person who’s face she had. There was a fella who came back to life several times and could set things on fire by touching it, there were giants, and a fella who ran a distance in the space of a few hours that took a group of men days to walk.

People can’t wait to watch it and get online to tell everyone how bad it is, if I thought that I’d not bother watching it.

That attitude seems to me like they can throw anything in then and you would be happy to go along with it.

For me, there has to be a general story that makes sense and outcomes that follow on from eachother in context. I think that happened for the vast majority of the series, but has been seriously lacking this time. The pacing hasn't really bothered me, i've just not liked keeping characters alive to appease some fans and changing others one week from the next.

If you like it then fair enough, but you shouldn't expect the rest of us to have the same view as you, just like we shoudn't expect you to not like it for the reasons we say.

If I stopped enjoying it, I would stop watching.

I don’t expect people to have the same view as me at all, I just find it strange that people have moaned about it for a few seasons now yet still watch it. People log on early hours of the morning to tell everyone how terrible it is, yet they still watch it the following week. Baffles me. It’s finished next week anyway, so everyone will be happy :)

Just butting in mate, but personally I liked most of the plots, the action, the special effects and the characters. Bit annoying how quickly she went from a slow burning rise in anger to full on crazy on a dragon and would of preferred a more personal touch to the Cercis death, but other than that it's been great.

I like the assault on the city, the way she kept moving after dropping out the sky because she can move quicker than the crossbows can turn and aim was clever, and that after she realised the only way people will follow her instead of Jon was through fear, because lets face it from the start, everything except the throne was incidental to her was fully shown in that attack.
I like how you could see just how brutal a full size dragon could be and why they were so feared.
The night battle was superb (but agree with most it was too dark)… but it was a night battle, what else should I of expected?

Ayia (or however you spell it) has a good story and was badass in the winterfell battle and when it's just raining random death around the city decided to leave, sensible to be fair.

Bad guys are running out, and the replacement is worse so it's proper GOT again (not the top quality football based website, the other one ;) )

Still not seeing everyone's beef to be honest, I think it's a great series from a great show.

For me:

Bad points
* Dwarf turning on his mate for not enough reason, except thinking that Deaneris was still what he had hoped and that it was the only way to keep peace.
* Too dark night battle - Logical but annoying
* Dragon bird getting too rattled too quick - Nothing positive except it was leading up to it since they arrived on the mainland, but the flip was way too much and dissapointing
* Jamie/Cercis not being killed by someone interesting: pants end for them imo, would of preferred an Ayia end, or Jamie to end her for banging the pirate or something like that.

Good bits
* The rest

Glad you enjoyed it.

With the dragon though, do you not think it was inconsistent the way the Dragons have struggled for effectiveness at certain times throughout the series and then last episode the one Danerys was on was untouchable?

Even after she was caught by surprise the week earlier and one died, she would have been raging and would have found a way to destroy Euron's fleet within 10 mins. Obviously they have to create scenes that excite the viewer so wanted to wait, but I just hate the inconsistency of the dragons being powerless some weeks and then on the recent episode, it was suddenly invincible.

After watching this latest one, I was thinking of giving the last one a miss in protest lol.

But after investing my time for 8 seasons, what would be the point... It may have a good ending too so i'd like to see how the last episode plays out.

I'm still a fan of the series overall, just hugely disappointed with this season. Fingers crossed the last episode will be a memorable one.

I understand the complaints, and my main comment is, make more of it to allow the story to breathe a bit like it did in the first few seasons. If it had done that then I am absolutely sure that the same outcomes could have been obtained and the journey to them would have satisfied more.

Also, this season for shear sit down and witness the spectacle enjoyment has been top notch in parts.Still a very good show, I just wish it was still as excellent as it was though. Wish they'd had a season 9 and this season had all been about the Night King and the white walkers.

Can't wait until Monday morning now...

What's ridiculous really is if you watched from beginning to end , and track danys character arc, her going mental is completely out of character for her. It just comes out of the blue to the extent that it will look so out of place.

Same as Jamie. Really develops as a character and grows before suddenly reverting to the character from series 1 for no real reason to.

It seems that the writers had the kings landing battle and the night king battle and couldn't figure out how to fill in the gaps in-between to make it a streamlined story. I can guarantee you that the ending will be completely against the theme of the show and be completely out of place.

The problem the show writers have put into themselves is that when it has came to writing it , they have threw away what made got what it was.

How is this for an alternative storyline

Euron is written like euron, doesn't have to have backstory episodes other than being told it.

Yara goes back much earlier and summons fleet over time.

2 episode run where rag tag group of John and co go to valyria and bring that city to life to hunt for a magical item as per the lore of the world.

Kings landing battle happens first. So Yara on sea, army on land.

Dany madness turn happens over 2 seasons bit by bit so it makes sense.

So kings landing battle happens , lannisters and golden company winning and holding army off , euron controlling sea. Then out of nowhere.....

Yara sails in with fleet and takes out eurons fleet. Dorne army arrives south and turn the land battle. Scorpions get taken out eventually and dany and John fly in with dragons and win the war. Bells ring etc everyone rejoices.

Then dany turns due to actual reasons and John gets shaken off his dragon so he falls and dany and 2 dragons rampage.

Dany wins but attention has to go to the north. So everyone left army wise marches north.

Dany then dies because westeros abandons her at the battle, John becomes fire prince man who kills night king in battle.

Then dragons , again for reasons connect to John and show ends with John on throne with 2 dragons and targerian name

There would be a lot more story in-between

Cersei goes from scheming and manipulating her way through 7 years to attain the throne. Spends year 8 in full on Moyes mode, staring blankly into space. They could have gone 1 of 2 ways with her. Surrendered to Jon and Tyrion to try and create a division between the Targaryeans. The alternative, she could have seen the size of the army, remembered the whole 'shame' naked humiliation and legged it, leaving the city to burn. It strikes me that with the limitations of only 6 episodes and 2 storylines to end, the cheap thrills of explosions and death were the easy solution.

SO supposedly Cersai's character has basically been two actual characters from the book (one of which isn't and never has been in the show) merged into one.

That is also why the Dorn storyline never came on.

HBO wanted 10 seasons - as did GGRM - but the writers didn't. The writers own the rights to the show, so it was their call?

Love the idea of Steve Round as the hand of King Moyes.

Didn't think the Daenyrs mad turn was all that rushed.

It's been a long journey of constant pressure, loss and betrayal since season 1 and things have cranked up further in the space of a shorter time since she landed in Westeros. Finally she's within walking distance of the Iron Throne and then the bells start ringing....couldn't that just be the trigger that unleashes all that emotion and pent up hatred?

A slide into madness isn't done in even steps on a predetermined scale. It's pressure, pressure, pressure and then the smallest thing can then tip the balance.
