Game Of Thrones: Season 8

I know it’s hip and cool to moan about how bad it was, but that was good.

Everyone's entitled to form their own opinion on it, doesn't mean we're trying to be hip or cool if criticising. I never moaned in seasons 1-4, and during seasons 5-7 although some things didn't sit right, the overall story and filming was still at a high standard.

My problem with it is how it's gone away from what made it unique in seasons 1-4 in particular, and then the way they have just changed characters and their motives for this season, and even done it from one episode to the next. They aren't impressive twists or shocks, they make no sense. The inconsistencies are poor as well. Like the Dragons being an easy target one week, and then untouchable the next.

More examples... Jaime surviving time and time again when he was certain to die. It started last season with Bronn saving him and that fight with Euron where he got stabbed and then somehow came back even stronger was ridiculous. Cersei is the most evil character on the show and would never surrender, and turned in to a blubbering wreck in a pathetic manner before her death (I still think they will keep her alive for the next episode somehow).

Jon Snow was built up to be the leading light and has been made useless since episode 3, they then bigged up Arya who suddenly gave up on her mission of 6-7 seasons just off one conversation with the Hound, and after braving the Battle of Winterfell to kill the Night King. Loads more problems than that that have already been pointed out.

Out of interest, what things did you like about the episode?

Big shout out to Lena Headey who made $1,000,000 an episode this season for standing at a window, drinking a glass of wine! She's an icon.....View attachment 58474
Heady: What's my motivation for this episode?
Benioff: You're top of your game, you can't lose from this position. Just stand around and smirk as everything crashes around you.
Heady: Ok, you want the "Messi at Anfield." Got it!

Mate.

That seems a bit of a kopite-ish thing to want to do......
No mate that's not kopite behaviour. It lacks the beauty and elegance for that. The kopite thing to do would be to actually follow though on the threat only to leave a massive signed essay explaing their actions in the envelope but then get really angry and defensive when confronted about it by the police and claim that it was somebody else setting them up. That my friend, is Kopite behaviour..... ;)

Just butting in mate, but personally I liked most of the plots, the action, the special effects and the characters. Bit annoying how quickly she went from a slow burning rise in anger to full on crazy on a dragon and would of preferred a more personal touch to the Cercis death, but other than that it's been great.

I like the assault on the city, the way she kept moving after dropping out the sky because she can move quicker than the crossbows can turn and aim was clever, and that after she realised the only way people will follow her instead of Jon was through fear, because lets face it from the start, everything except the throne was incidental to her was fully shown in that attack.
I like how you could see just how brutal a full size dragon could be and why they were so feared.
The night battle was superb (but agree with most it was too dark)… but it was a night battle, what else should I of expected?

Ayia (or however you spell it) has a good story and was badass in the winterfell battle and when it's just raining random death around the city decided to leave, sensible to be fair.

Bad guys are running out, and the replacement is worse so it's proper GOT again (not the top quality football based website, the other one ;) )

Still not seeing everyone's beef to be honest, I think it's a great series from a great show.

For me:

Bad points
* Dwarf turning on his mate for not enough reason, except thinking that Deaneris was still what he had hoped and that it was the only way to keep peace.
* Too dark night battle - Logical but annoying
* Dragon bird getting too rattled too quick - Nothing positive except it was leading up to it since they arrived on the mainland, but the flip was way too much and dissapointing
* Jamie/Cercis not being killed by someone interesting: pants end for them imo, would of preferred an Ayia end, or Jamie to end her for banging the pirate or something like that.

Good bits
* The rest

Pretty much came here to say this. So frustrating.

Arcs that have been 7.5 seasons in the making - Cersei in particular - were ended in massively unsatisfactory ways, and the only thing really left to play out in the last episode is the storyline they started two episodes ago!!!

If there’d been hints towards this all throughout then I wouldn’t have minded so much but it all just feels very lazy and “after the Lord Mayor’s show” as they seemingly put all their eggs in the Battle of Winterfell basket.

Apparently there's a petition doing the rounds to demand that HBO redo the series

That’s just typical of the world we live in I suppose.

I straight up hated the last episode and have been a bit “meh” at best over the season as a whole, but the missus and I have vowed to binge GoT again at some point down the line and I imagine when we do I’ll still enjoy it as a whole.

Sopranos had a badly garbo ending but I still look back on it as an awesome show overall.

I’m not angry, just disappointed.

And angry.

So according to what I’ve heard, the writers have rushed the series for several reasons.

1. It’s obviously a cash cow. They can’t wait for RR to finish his books (and to some degree, I understand that- they don’t want the series to lose it’s momentum).

2. They want the Star Wars gig, so they are rushing the crap out of it. HBO would give them whatever resources/time they needed to finish the series, but they couldn’t give a toss about the integrity of a show. People will watch it regardless of what they do. They opted for this time window and 8 seasons and six episodes for the final season.

3. They are selfish little turds that don’t want anyone else to end the series even though they have already thrown in the towel. The show would probably never return to form after RR decided to take an eternity on his novels, but they could have at least handed the project to other writers that would give it the time and dedication it needed.

In other words, BOOOOOO
