Francis Jeffers a childhood hero & heart breaker?

Had a lot more talent than he ended up showing. Wasted it for whatever reason and I hope he looks back now and realises he could have done so much more.

The transfers ruined him I think

Just made this point in the transfer thread. Sometimes a player just fits a club. Jeffers was excellent at the start, got too big for his boots and wanted out. I don't think he realised what he had till he left. Living in London, with the added pressure of playing for a title chasing side where he was very much a small fish suddenly appeared to break him. A lost talent sadly.

There was a guy called Graham Allen who used to come on for a few minutes in 1997, I think he signed for Tranmere. I had hopes he would be our Seamus Coleman of yesterday.

I can't remember him at all, I always thought Peter Clarke was going to go on and be a monster at CB for us and captain us one day.

I was in tears when Dunc left....i was 16 !!!!!!!

I never got attached to a player again.

These loans have been good for that, my son likes Rom & Gerry but knows they are not ours, so doesnt get attached. I have tried to get him to love the shirt & badge more that the body inside it.

Not really heart break, but this might be of interest?
Jan 07 we played a friendly against Bournemouth, during warm up a ball came to us, so we sort of kept it as one of our players was jogging over, autograph and photo opportunity for the nipper? It was Mark Hughes, young centre back, not Father Ted, he posed for a photo and signed the programme, top lad, i wished him well for the rest of the season,(he had just made his first team début) he smiled and said "i`m off mate" wasn`t really sure what he meant, till transfer deadline day when he signed for Northampton. My lad was upset at the time, only because he felt he knew him! Bless

Haha it was a close run thing between the 2, Phil Jevons briefly entered the running, as did Nick Chadwick, but Cadamarteri just shades it for me.

Soon to be followed by Agard, Vaughan, Velios and McAleny. Goodison Park a grave yard for strikers:(

He is a classic case of "if only".

We've done fine without him, at the end of the day, he's got a few quid tucked away and he'll probably be ok for the rest of his life, and if that's all that's important to him then good for him.

As far as his career as a footballer goes, I'm not sure how he could have anything but regret. Injuries didn't help, but his attitude and a lot of the decisions he made were poor. He is still the most intelligent player I've seen at Goodison as far as movement is concerned. Complete waste of talent
