Francis Jeffers a childhood hero & heart breaker?

When I was much younger back in the early 2000s, I was upset when both Jeffers and Ball were sold.

I went to school with Michael Ball, he was a couple of years below me. Was a really nice lad. Even though everyone knew he was boss at footy (perspective needed) he wasn't arrogant about it.

For some reason, loads of kids from Formby attended High School in Thornton (L23.) Think it might have been because there was no catholic high school in Formby??

I was a lot more disappointed when Michael Ball left, he was an actual genuine blue. Sat just behind him and his wife at the final in 2009 too.

Never liked Jeffers. Just didn't warm to him as much.

Kevin McLeod was in the youth team around when Osman was, thought he would have made an impact on the first team but no!

I remember him coming on as a sub against someone. He tore them a new one, me and my dad were proper chuffed to see us finally get a proper winger, next thing you know, he's off at QPR, Brighton etc!

Others i remember distinctly, John O'Kane, oh my. I remember that Graham Allen too, he was a right yard dog! and Jevons, had a lot of promise, I remember him being desperate for a move to the RS, but they didn't wanna know, came on at Coventry away and did a good job.

God we had some dross. Mitch Ward, Tony Thomas, Tony Grant, Scot Gemmill, Idan Tal, Carl Tiler, John O'Kane, unsurprising that the majority of that lot were integral in nearly taking us down in 1997-98!

I was 10/11 years old, very impressionable kid. Franny was my hero he burst on the scene. Just 17, seven years older than me! Scoring goals he was confident, local, a fellow kid. We all know e had promise and his career got destroyed when Arsenal bought him for 8 million or so.

It broke my heart one min I had a void filled left by my true childhood hero big Dunc. The next he was gone, snatched away.

I set up this to get a discussion about kids who's hearts where broke by the loss of Jeffers.

Duncan came back and so Rooney had risen . . .. needles to say when I watched Dunc hit it past United in 05 the childhood hero was and always will be Duncan Ferguson.

i'm about 10 years older than you, fella, but Rooney leaving left me with a hole in my heart which still hasn't quite healed. Ross the Boss is my first real hope of healing it.

Wouldn't put tony grant in that section of players personally! Would of been quality if he could of stayed fit
