JAYTALITY

Player Valuation: £30m
I was 10/11 years old, very impressionable kid. Franny was my hero he burst on the scene. Just 17, seven years older than me! Scoring goals he was confident, local, a fellow kid. We all know e had promise and his career got destroyed when Arsenal bought him for 8 million or so.

It broke my heart one min I had a void filled left by my true childhood hero big Dunc. The next he was gone, snatched away.

I set up this to get a discussion about kids who's hearts where broke by the loss of Jeffers.

Duncan came back and so Rooney had risen . . .. needles to say when I watched Dunc hit it past United in 05 the childhood hero was and always will be Duncan Ferguson.

Never scored more than 8 goals for us in a season. Quite possibly the finest piece of business we've ever done. Nice one Arsene.

The transfers ruined him I think

I didn't like how he had his head turned. He was our equivalent to Michael Owen in 1998/99. Then he got an agent and a big head. The worst thing he did was submit a transfer request 2 days before the 99/00 season, when we were due to play Man Utd at home. It was turned down, he 'wasn't in the right frame of mind to play', we still drew though. Then he got a really bad injury and was out of action a long time. He came back into form in 00/01, just in time for Arsenal to sign him. Jeffers was basically Rooney, except without the long lasting success. He had a brief spell at Arsenal, a disastrous loan return with us (which ended when he refused to play for Moyes, and was also one of the voices in Rooney's ear telling him to leave us) and his career went downhill from there, albeit he made a lot of money & probably never needs to work another day in his life now he's retired. When I think of Jeffers, I just think of 'what might have been', for both him & Everton.

So he was crap then? Quality players with the right mentality don't get ruined by transfers.[/QUOTE]
