Think we have to be realistic. Fellaini is at the right age to move, he's given the club decent service and the 20+ mill we'd get for him could buy 2 or 3 good players. My ideal situation is we keep everyone and add one or two top quality assets but that's not likely. If we could give Martinez £30 mill to get a striker and a midfielder it'd be perfect

well can't we just see whether he gets the two or three players we need in first without selling as has been promised and then look at who we can sell if it doesn't happen. he will still be world class for another five year to eight years probably, and we will still get good cash for him till he is thirty. with a good squad that just needs strengthening I don't get why this is the right time to sell one of our 2 best players. Martinez has stated he was fed up with that at Wigan so why push it on him. we are as likely to get a Mirallas for 6 mill as we are to get a Allen or Henderson for nearly treble that. lets see what he can do.

Bill Kenwright is telling local and national journos that there is a fixed fee in the clause for Fellaini. So somebody's lying.

Look at it as an auction where the reserve price is - for argument's sake - £24M. One club only in the auction room making a reserve price bid and the hammer comes down; the fun starts when one or more others join in the bidding.

Yep Baines is our most important signing this summer, the sooner it done the better.

Do you have evidence of that? There have been many occasions when players have been sold for more than the release figure. The release figure is the minimum amount at which bidding starts, usually. The fact that you put 'end of story' at the end of your post means nothing.

Can't believe that's true Steve, and I'd love you to offer a couple of examples of players going for more than their release clause. Why should a team pay more? The release clause is the amount a club have to pay for the right to open discussions with the player's representatives. Any bidding war after that is only in favour of the player, as the interested parties try to tempt him to sign for them with various sweeteners and higher wages. Everton have no say in who gets him once the release figure is activated.

Exactly this. Who in their right mind would turn down more money, in this case 20m is far too low and doesn't make sense, we bought him for 15m plus there's no doubt sell-on money due to Liege, has to be more than 20m.

The decision to leave lies with Fellaini if the terms of the release clause are met...there is nothing the club can do about it.

In previous cases such as Lescott and Rooney,the club could have said no...the outcome would probably have been worse if they had...but they had the right to do so.

Bill Kenwright was merely stating a fact that one player can leave and the club cannot stop him,subject to the release clause being met.

The only bidding war then will be the terms and conditions for the player, the clubs will all bid the same fee to Everton to activate the release clause

Mirallas turned down Arsenal so Fellaini might do the same, but he wont turn down the likes of Man u or Chelsea but cant see Jose wanting him.
