Fellaini wants to leave Everton?

How does everyone seem to know the exact wages of all our players and their buyout clauses? Am I missing something here?

Whether or not you believe him, LCAB said a few months ago that Fellaini has a buyout clause in his contract of somewhere around £25m.

Sincerely doubt we'll be looking at much more than that.

Fellaini: Issues denial

Everton star Marouane Fellaini has played down reports linking him with a move away from Goodison Park, reaffirming his commitment to the club.

Fellaini had been quoted by Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad as saying that his time at Everton may be coming to an end in January or at the end of the current season.

However, the Belgian international has moved to set the record straight and insists he has no plans to leave Everton.

"I was very surprised to read in some newspapers that I will leave Everton very soon and perhaps next January," wrote Fellaini, in a statement published on his Facebook page.

"Let me remind you that I am very happy in Liverpool and our start of the championship was good.

"Kevin Mirallas and some other good players joined us to make a better squad in order to realize a good championship in the line of the end of the last one.

"So with Everton, I am ready to play all the season and to reach our goals of this season. However, my only concern for the moment is of course our [Belgium] Tuesday's game against Croatia.

"Whether you're in Belgium or England, thank you from my heart for your support ..."

Unless the players were in the final year of their contract it wouldn't have mattered whether they had two, three, four or even five years left to run.

I suggest that's not true. I would imagine that the difference it makes becomes progressively greater as the contract shortens. Put another way, are you seriously suggesting that when a player only has 18 months left to run on a contract the club says to itself "Absolutely no need to worry, he's got more than a year left so that's the same as having five years left"?

Song provided 11 assists for Arsenal last year! We use Fellaini behind the striker because we have few other options. Chelsea or Real wouldn't use him there, so to them he's just a defensive midfielder.
I don't have Fellaini's assists stats to hand, but I'd like to compare the two of them over the 2008 - 2012 period, rather than just one year. We didn't compare their international caps based on one year, or their goals. And why not also consider where PSG might use him? I bet SAF wouldn't just deploy him as a defensive midfielder if United purchased him either. it's not just about Chelsea and Real.

Martinez can play in midfield or at centreback, he's Spanish, he was a key member of Bilbao's run to the Europa League final and he's only a year younger than Fellaini. His goalscoring record isn't far short of Felli's either. His pedigree says winner. How much experience does our man have of European club football? 13 European games in 8 years.

All valid points. Felli of course has the greater international experience by some margin, so I'd say in the balance they are comparable. In fact, I've already said that. Oh and look, Martinez cost £32m. So we are back to where I started, stating that we should be looking for more than that, and accepting bids of £32m and above.

What is the different transfer approach that Moyes has adopted? We snatched City's hand off. Why was it kept so quiet? Did we accept their first offer? Why didn't we try and trigger an auction?

The different approach was "sell early for big(ish) money; buy early (Pienaar, Mirallas, Oviedo)". I humbly suggest that represents a deviation from the previous model: "Sell Arteta an hour before the window shuts and desperately rush some loans in as cover". Totally accept your points re keeping it quiet, first offers and triggering auctions though. Definitely questions that the club should at least be asking of themselves, if not openly discussing in public.

PSG can have anybody that they want and Milan could have asked as much as they wanted for the pair. Prices simply aren't as inflated as they were a few years ago. Hazard was perhaps the most wanted player of this window and was on the shopping list of Chelsea, United, City and Arsenal at least. How could we possibly hope to achieve more than the £32m he went for unless there are several teams in the running?

Have you considered that Milan decided £49m was a bloody good price for the pair? Who do you feel did best out of that deal? I think PSG paid over the odds personally, and that prices are still inflated... Witsel for £32m mean anything to you? I agree that more than £32m would be difficult if there isn't more than one team interested, but just because there's no apparent interest now doesn't mean there won't be real interest in summer 2013, or summer 2014.

How is Martinez "relatively untried" given that he's played over 200 games for Bilbao, he has about twice as many european appearances as Fellaini and he's been in the Spain squad for over 2 years?

In the same way that Felli is, having played over 200 games for Everton and Standard Liege with more than four times as many international caps as Martinez whilst only being ten months older. Neither of them are the complete player yet, but they are both comparable.

I think Martinez and Modric are probably both slightly over-valued but they're viewed as cultured players that major sides wanted desperately to sign. If Real weren't interested in paying £32m for one of their own to play alongside Alonso or Ramos, why would they pay it for someone who they would only use next to Alonso?

You're applying factors specific to this summer and using them to suggest that Real won't be interested in a year, or 18 months or two years' time. Alonso will turn 32 in November 2014, and Fellaini will turn 26 in the same month. They might not want to pay £32m for Alonso to have a buddy now, but they will consider spending big in the next season or two to purchase his replacement.

Similarly, if Chelsea decided that they didn't want to persue their interest in Modric for £32m, why would they stump up more for someone who wouldn't link up play in behind Torres but would most likely sit in front of the back four to break up play?

Don't want to sell Felli to a prem team, so not as worried. Would be nice to have them interested in order to push the price a bit, but unless they are looking to move on from Mikel/Obi I would agree with you.

Fingers crossed we qualify for CL this year so that this argument becomes redundant!

If we don't Improve enough it's obvious he will leave and sales of hair straigteners on merseyside will go through the roof and good look to him he deserves to be playing at the very top of his profession but until that day he is an everton player so let's enjoy him while he's here and stop getting our knickers in a twist over another jarg rumour
