Farhad Moshiri: Ronald Koeman Statement

I do find it amusing how much some of our fans think people care about us.

“We’re a laughing stock”, “he’s turning us into an embarrassment” etc

You all need a hard reality check. No one gives a toss about Everton bar Liverpool fans. We are insignificant. When we start winning trophies and becoming successful then we’ll start to get mocked by other fans.

Hardly anyone other than evertonians will know or care about these comments. Stop overvaluing how much other fans care about us, it’s cringeworthy.
Oh that's alright then. No worries that our owner has just told me I'm wasting my time going to 1 in 3 matches because he couldn't actually care less if we win them or not, as long as Hull fans aren't laughing at me it's all good.

I mean, I suppose if I was an intelligent person I might think that our owner making comments like this probably doesn't help the way we are perceived by others, and therefore this becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. And I suppose if I was really intelligent then I'd be able to point out that people routinely mock West Ham because of the things their board do and say, despite West Ham not winning any trophies, therefore the point you're making is demonstrably rubbish. But i'm just an insignificant Everton fan so I'll sit here and accept your comments because it would be cringeworthy if I didn't.

Again, I don't think this is how he meant it - even though I totally agree it was a stupid thing to say.

But the whole use of the term 'laughing stock' gets on my nerves. People say it all the time and it just seems a bit childish.

I absolutely agree with what you're saying, I just wish people would use a different phrase :) it's a real knit-pick of mine

you sir are my hero!

I just wonder whether Moshiri applies his Everton expectations into the rest of his business empire. Does he accept one of his employees at Matalloinvest producing one useable steel sheet from every three they make? Does he turn a blind eye to his employees at Magafon when they only manage to get their network system to one out of every three customers they have contracts with?

If not, why does he expect his Everton employees to have such a poor attitude toward winning games?

Sadly mate, whatever shiny new dawns we seem to have as a club, there is just something absolutely rotten at the very core of the club that seems to stop us from ever being successful. You could send Mourinho in with Guardiola as his assistant and Mansour as the owner and within a few weeks they'd start talking about aiming for 7th, difficulty in fan expectations, not being the sort of club used to winning etc. It's an absolute disease on the club. I still can't believe the owner of the club looked at that statement and thought 'yeah, that's the image of Everton I want to portray'

What a load of nonsense, I never said you can't be annoyed at his statement. I said it's ridiculous to think other fans give a toss about moshiri's comments. There are Everton threads on lots of other footy fans forum... guess how many of them feature people talking Moshiri's comments...

It's a non story which hasn't even made the mainstream press. You're being an overly dramatic fanny, it really is that simple.

Hardly anyone mocks West Ham bar their local rivals and I live in friggin London. A few cringey kids on the daily mail website chatting wham does not = people routinely mock them. Even if it was true (again, it's not) then who cares ? Oh no some people on the internet are making fun of some comments a director made, waaaaaaah, its not fair. What are you 10 years old ?

Get a grip. By all means get angry that it's not a wise comment from an owner but to try and make out that everyone is going to be mocking us for it is delusional. It's a non story.

I'm now coming around to the possibility that Moshiri is another Kenwright stooge installed to save his regime with an initial audacious flourish of words combined with expectation-level hyping up of small acts of change....something I'd once have dismissed as David Icke levels of paranoia.

Bottom line here is that no significant cash has been spent out in the "transition from Kenwright to Moshiri"; a new stadium scheme is up and running, yes, but when wasn't there one at this club in the past 15 years?

I think we're teetering on the edge of a collapse in organisational morale here, and I wouldn't blame anyone for calling time on the hopes they had in the owners as well as this manager.

I agree with all of this. Fans of other teams are not going to ruminate on what Moshiri says or doesn't say, and most won't know his name.

But his comments contribute to the underlying narrative that the club presents, whether it be consciously or otherwise. Everton is a multi-million pound business, if you want to look at it coldly, and yet nobody at the club seems to care about how its presented to fans, customers, the football industry, whatever you want to call people who even have a vague interest.

There is so much football-related stuff going around, particularly with social media. Yesterday our effective owner decided to add to all of this flotsam and jetsam floating around by saying it's really ok for Everton to be on a bad run at present as we lost only one game we might have hoped to win.

There are some people old enough here to remember Gerald Ratners 'crap' comment. It was a moment of perhaps off-the-cuff honesty, but he could never shake it off. Sport and football is all aspirational, yesterday was hardly Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday from Moshiri was it?

If you can't win, and are not going to try to change that, what on earth is the point?
